Here's my thought for the day.... or maybe my question of the day... if I invited you to run a marathon on Sunday how would you feel about that? (and do please let me know below!!!)
Why am I wondering?
Because when talking about the fasting lifestyle with people, and as I traverse the socials, I see people jumping straight into LONG fasts and wondering why they feel like cr**, or couldn't manage more than 15 hours, or worse, immediately declare they could NEVER fast because they need to eat every 2-4 hours or they lose the plot! And this morning I had a moment of clarity, and replied to someone, "Could you run a marathon tomorrow? No?.. so, when could you, and what would you need to do to prepare for it?"
Because the process is the same!!!
Even if you've never run in your life, most of us understand you can't go from zero to 26.219 miles in just 3 days... you'd just be setting yourself up for failure, AND probable injury! And even the thought of doing it might make your stomach churn! We know you need to ease yourself in to training.. build yourself up gradually, and give yourself time to build stamina.... and it's very unlikely the first race you entered would a marathon.. you might aim for a 5k first, then a half marathon, THEN push yourself. And most of us would need a bit of support and guidance to even get to first base! At the very least you'd need some information on the best way to train, and how to prepare your body!
So, if you have been intrigued by all the (growing) evidence that Intermittent Fasting offers many health and wellbeing benefits (not just weight loss!!) and just immediately thought "I could never do that"... OR have given it a go and failed, I encourage you to take a step back, re group, and make a plan, a training plan if you will, to prepare yourself, mentally, nutritionally and physically for one of the best things you can do for your health and wellbeing, not to mention self esteem. Take on the mindset of someone who has been talked into running the London Marathon for charity in 2027!!
Do your research. Learn what you need to do to get from where you are now, to where you want to be. And decide WHY you want to commit to the journey.
Get a coach who can not only give you that information, but support you too.
Find a training partner (or more) to motivate you for the days you need it (and you can support in return)
Set yourself short term goals, and focus on those. What are you going to do today to bring you one step closer to your tomorrow?
And then, always always celebrate your small wins!
Do this and before you know it, you will be fasting with ease, and ready (if you want to), to run that marathon (or 3 day water fast!) with me any Sunday I suggested! And along the way, you would have lost that dangerous body fat you are currently carrying around, reversed your high blood pressure/ type 2 diabetes/ fatty liver/ inflammation/ painful knees/ brain fog/ and reduced the risk of Alzheimers, heart disease and cancer, and be feeling absolutely AWESOME!
