Says it all πŸ«‚πŸ—£οΈ

Says it all πŸ«‚πŸ—£οΈ

When someone receives a terminal diagnosis, or begins to decline from age or illness, something devastating often happens quietly, beneath the surface: they begin to lose their autonomy. Suddenly, everyone around them is telling them what they should feel, how they should think, how to cope, how to fight, even how to die. Grief, hope, acceptance, these are deeply personal experiences, but they often get drowned out by well-meaning voices trying to make sense of it all. In the process, the person at the center of it, the one living it, is often silenced.

We must do better. We have to protect a person’s right to decide what this chapter of their life looks like, no matter how uncomfortable it makes us. Their words, their wishes, and their boundaries matter up until their very last breath. Even if their choices don’t align with what we would want, they are still theirs to make. Dying is not something we get to do for someone else. What we can do is honor them with our presence, our listening, and our unwavering respect.

This is why conversation matters, real conversation. Talk to the people you love about what’s most important to them. Ask them what they want, how they feel, and what they fear. Be the person who listens in a way that makes them feel heard. And when they tell you, don’t rush to fix it or change it, just hold it. Carry their words like something sacred. Because in the end, the greatest act of love might not be saving someone, it might be showing up exactly as they have asked you to, even when your heart wants something different.

A rare glimpse of the team behind the scenes!

Last night we had our Christmas do...we went to a cottage in the middle of nowhere, did crafts, swapped charity shop gifts, drank wine, ate cheese and slept for 8 hours (some of us have very small children so a massive treat!)...and it was heaven πŸ’«

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas πŸŽ„ ❀️

Delighted to announce the dates for Death Cafe 2026!

The ethos of Death Cafe is always to be agenda free, led by the people in the room on the day, but we've had so many kind offers of help to provide information to our community that it seemed to good an opportunity to not use this space as a place people can also get information related to the end of life and beyond.

I am therefore so pleased to say that each cafe will have experts in advance care planning, end of life care and funerals present, in case anyone attending would like to know a little more.

So do come and join us, for a gentle, open and curious discussion about all things death and dying. Come for the cake...stay for the company!

Next Cafe: 2pm, 27th February 2026, at the Glassbox in Taunton Library on Paul Street πŸƒ

A useful webinar for anyone struggling this time of year πŸ’™

As we approach the festive season, many people look forward to warmth, connection and familiar traditions. For others, Christmas can feel particularly challenging, especially when coping with grief or significant life changes.

Emma Gray from Rainbow Hunting is hosting an online webinar titled β€œWhy Grief Feels so Difficult at Christmas.” It offers a compassionate and practical space to explore why the holiday period can intensify emotions, and what can genuinely help.

When: Wednesday 10 December 2025, 7:30 to 9:00 pm UK time (live on Zoom, with a recording available)

Who it is for: Anyone who finds the festive season difficult because of bereavement, separation, illness or any major change in life circumstances

The session looks at what happens emotionally and physically during the Christmas period while you are grieving, and provides useful tools to support yourself with greater understanding and care. It avoids the usual phrases and instead focuses on what people really experience at this time of year.

If you or someone you know is finding the lead up to Christmas difficult, this webinar may offer the clarity and support that is needed.
