What happens to your body when you stop taking PPIs like Omeprazole?
1) Your stomach acid spikes. When you stop PPIs, your body can temporarily produce more acid than usual. This is known as rebound acid hypersecretion.
2) Symptoms can feel worse. Heartburn, reflux, or indigestion may flare up before they begin to improve.
3) Your body starts to adjust. Over time, your stomach begins regulating acid naturally again.
4) Nutrient absorption may improve. Long-term PPI use is linked to reduced absorption of key nutrients like B12 and magnesium.
