Parkside very pleased to welcome Joyce back today at 102 one of the oldest people to have a hip replacement - it’s thanks to the dedication of all the teams from anaesthetists, theatres to OTs, physios and of course the consultant and nursing staff that helped contribute to a successful outcome - BBC and ITV have interviewed Joyce today following this amazing story!

Looking forward to the seeing the new and old teams on Thursday at Parkside to help celebrate our 35th birthday - sadly no parking available on Parkside suggest using park and ride as cheapest option or the multi-storey carpark - as we have clinics running - thank you 😊

We are pleased to announce our new clinic lead has been appointed at Parkside!

The consultant now leading Private Patient Care at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton says the public are often unaware NHS hospitals provide such a service.

Surgeon Paul Mackey has taken over as clinical lead at our Unit. Together with the Kingston Wing at Yeovil District Hospital, we make up the Somerset Private Patient Service.

On average, the service treats about 135 patients each month over our services in Taunton and Yeovil.

Mr Mackey said: “If you are opting for private healthcare, there are huge advantages to having that in a large hospital; for one thing, the reassurance of having 24 hour intensive care on hand, should it be needed, which comes with being part of a leading NHS hospital.

“But I think there are a lot of people unaware that this service exists and therefore don’t have all the facts to help them make the right decision.”

Sarah Porter, who is our Private Patient Manager, said the other advantage was that income generated from private patients is reinvested straight back into the NHS. She said: “That is a huge benefit to the hospital – and the community as a whole.”

Orthopaedic Surgeon Matthew Hall is Clinical Director at Yeovil Hospital’s Kingston Wing. He said: "At Taunton and Yeovil we have a philosophy of ‘private experience with NHS peace of mind’ and we think that is what sets us apart from other private hospitals."

“Making the right decision about where to receive your healthcare is such an important one.”

Here at Parkside, we love to recognise our successes, and this time around we are celebrating two of our outstanding staff members' achivements.

Our wonderful Ward Clerk, Jo (pictured first), has recently been nominated for our Trust's prestigious "OSCAs 2024" awards. Jo is the first point of contact in our team for patients and visitors, who only have praises for her. She is an ever-smiling presence, she is reliable and hardworking, always problem solving and ensuring that our day to day runs smoothly. We are so proud of you, Jo, and cannot wait to continue working together!

Our outstanding Junior Sister, Liz (pictured second), has been awarded not one, but two "Our Everyday Champions" awards. Despite the short time that she has been part of our team, Liz has brought many improvements to our Ward, and she always ensures that our team's effectiveness is maximised, whilst maintaining a balanced environment for us. She is hard working, creative, and always thinking up new ways in which to better our services. We are incredibly excited by your achievements, Liz, and we cannot wait to see what the future holds!

A huge congratulations to both incredible ladies - we are very thankful to have the opportunity to work together in providing the best possible standard of care to all that come though our Ward! 🎉

Here at Parkside, we value transparency and accessibility for our patients and visitors. We are therefore excited to present a new addition that you will be able to see adorning the walls of our reception areas, as well as those of our private en suite rooms.

This new poster displays the pictures and contact information for each of our clinical leaders, so that anyone can easily identify those responsible for our Ward and connect with them directly with any questions or requests for support. We want to ensure that anyone coming through our Ward feels confident knowing that there is a dedicated leadership team readily available to assist them.

This poster is just one of many ways in which we strive to foster a more supportive Ward environment. We believe that by working together, we can continue to improve our standards of care and the support that we offer our patients.

Somerset Private Patient Services are proud to be celebrating two outstanding members of our team, Sarah Porter, our Private Business and Overseas Patient Manager (pictured left), and Hannah Pitman, our Head of Private Patient Services (pictured right), who were recently awarded Long Service awards for their incredible dedication and outstanding service to the NHS for the past 25 years!

With a combined 50 years of experience between them, our two leaders have gone above and beyond to ensure our services and admin teams run smoothly and that our patients leave us with smiles on their faces. They are not only managers, they are mentors, cornerstones, problem-solvers, and sources of contagious happiness to everyone around them.

They are known for their kindness, empathy, and solidarity, always being ready to be a shoulder on which to lean during difficult times, and they always find a way to make our days brighter. They are second to none in their absolute dedication to the service and our patients, and they are always ready to step into any role to support our teams.

Thank you, Sarah and Hannah, for everything you have done this far and continue to do! You are a true inspiration to us all, and we are incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to collaborate under your brilliant leadership. Here's to many more years of success! 🎉
