What’s the Difference Between Sadness and Depression?
We all feel sad from time to time — it's a normal part of being human. Sadness often comes in response to something specific: a loss, a disappointment, or a difficult experience. It usually fades with time, support, or even a good cry.
Depression, on the other hand, is more than just sadness. It can feel like a heavy fog that lingers for weeks or months. It often affects your sleep, appetite, energy, motivation, relationships, and sense of self-worth. Sometimes, there may be no clear reason for the way you're feeling.
If you or someone you know has been feeling low for a long time and it’s starting to interfere with daily life, it might be more than sadness — and you’re not alone. Support is available, and recovery is possible.
