Janet Smethurst Reflexology

Janet Smethurst Reflexology Reflexologist based in Cheshire. Specialising in women's health & wellbeing. I was awarded full membership of the Association of Reflexologists.

I’m Janet Smethurst, a fully qualified Reflexologist specialising in women’s health and wellbeing. I discovered the life changing benefits of reflexology over 10 years ago whilst receiving treatment myself. I found it invaluable and was so impressed by the results that I decided to start training to become a therapist. I trained at the School of Complementary Health in Exeter and in 2010 achieved Level 3 diplomas in Reflexology and Anatomy & Physiology. To enhance my holistic practice, I enjoy developing my skills, constantly learning through continued professional development. Most clients come to me with specific problems, such as menopause, PMT, hormonal imbalances, back pain, digestive disorders and migraine, to name just a few. However, I also see many clients for general wellbeing to enhance their day to day lives. By creating deep relaxation, Reflexology is a wonderful therapy for reducing stress. It helps calm down the nervous system and allows the body to function more efficiently, which encourages a sense of balance and wellbeing. Reflexology is an amazing therapy and I love being able to improve the quality of my clients lives.

If you are feeling stressed or anxious you are certainly not alone. Without relief, stress can continue to build fuelling more anxiety and eventually could lead to mild depression.

Reflexology can help to relieve stress and anxiety as it unblocks nerve endings in the feet, activating the sympathetic nervous system, rebalances the lymphatic and endocrine systems and boosts the circulation. In this way, reflexology induces a state of calm throughout your body and mind, leaving you feeling less stressed and anxious.

Another powerful way Reflexology can relieve stress comes from the physical touch. Skin to skin contact from Reflexology releases the hormone oxytocin, which stimulates the release of additional stress relieving endorphins, dopamine and serotonin. These feel-good hormones released in the brain provide pain relief, reduce anxiety and stress, and reduce levels of cortisol in the body. Endorphins help us to feel calm, positive and safe.

Get 2026 off to the best start and drink more water….. Many of us don't realise the importance of drinking water and as a result are not drinking enough of it. The guidelines for drinking water are different for each person, depending on gender, activity, size etc. When our bodies are dehydrated there are many common signs such as:

Darker urine and not passing much urine
Poor digestion & constipation
Headaches
Lack of energy
Feeling lightheaded
Dry skin, lips and dandruff
Bad skin complexion

If you feel like you have any of the above then try to increase your water intake.

I tell each of my clients to drink more water after a treatment, and some of you may wonder why it is so important to do this after having a treatment. The effleurage techniques we use in reflexology encourages the body to rid itself of toxins. To do this, the body must have water in it, so that the toxins can come out when we urinate. If we do not drink water then the body will use up all of its water supplies to get rid of the toxins and this can leave us feeling dehydrated and not well.
So start drinking more water today and see how different it makes you feel and look!

Janet Smethurst - Reflexologist

I’m a fully qualified and experienced Reflexologist based in Cheddon Fitzpaine. I specialise in women’s health and wellbeing.

I qualified as a Reflexologist in 2010, after training at the School of Complementary Health in Exeter and achieving ITEC Level 3 diplomas in Reflexology and Anatomy & Physiology. Having trained to the highest standard, I was awarded full membership of the Association of Reflexologists and the Complementary & Natural Health Council, which is supported by the Department of Health and NHS Choices.

Reflexology is a complementary therapy that treats the whole body, Its main principle is that by massaging and applying pressure to parts of the feet known as reflex areas, other corresponding and connected areas of the body may feel the benefit. By creating deep relaxation, Reflexology is an amazing therapy for reducing stress. It helps calm down the nervous system and allows the body to function more efficiently, which encourages a sense of balance and well-being.

As well as being a relaxing therapy, many conditions can be improved with the support of Reflexology, including: anxiety, stress, back pain, migraine, hormone imbalance, PMT, menopause, insomnia, digestive disorders and pain management to name but a few.
