Thanks Ben Phillips at TA1 Performance Coaching 🙌 What a lovely post! My clients know how much I love Ben's sessions. The team at The Crescent Clinic always signpost to Ben for strength and conditioning 💪

Member of the Month: Dani! 🌟

Dani is an incredible massage therapist and anyone in that line of work knows just how tough it is on the body. Long hours, awkward angles, and the constant use of hands, wrists, and shoulders can take a real toll.

But Dani doesn’t just accept the wear and tear, she takes action.

She trains consistently at both Small Group PT and my Saturday Bootcamp, using strength training to protect her body, stay energised, and deliver the best care to her clients.

“As a massage therapist, my hands are my tools, but it’s my strength that keeps them working.”

I place a strong emphasis on posture, joint integrity, and building strength in all of my training programming, which is exactly what Dani needs to offset the demands of her work. Whether it’s holding strong through a hinge or supporting the shoulder under load, the goal is very much about longevity and resilience.

“Strength training helps me protect my body, improve endurance, and give every client the care they deserve without burning out. Ben’s sessions tick every box!”

Dani is a very popular member and consistent presence to my TA1 Performance Coaching crew. She’s quietly driven, incredibly friendly, very strong and always leads by example. Never needing the spotlight, but always earning respect.

Dani also owns her own massage therapy business, which I highly recommend to anyone needing quality, professional treatment from someone who is at the top of her field and really understands how to take care of the body.

Dani, thank you for your effort, attitude and commitment. I’m lucky to have you onboard. 💥👏

💧 Hydration & Fascia: A Vital Connection for Mobility and Recovery 🧬

Fascia - the connective tissue network that surrounds muscles, nerves, and organs - plays a crucial role in movement efficiency, injury prevention, and postural alignment. But there's one factor often overlooked in fascia health: hydration.

Emerging research suggests that fascia is highly sensitive to fluid dynamics. When the body is dehydrated, fascia becomes less pliable, potentially leading to:

• Reduced range of motion
• Increased muscle tightness and stiffness
• Impaired recovery and tissue repair

👉 Studies have shown that hydrated fascial tissue maintains better viscoelasticity, allowing for smoother gliding between tissue layers (Schleip et al., 2012; Findley & Schleip, 2007).

👉 Manual therapy and movement practices such as myofascial release or dynamic stretching are significantly more effective when the body is well hydrated.

📌 Takeaway: Daily hydration isn't just for energy and metabolism - it directly supports the suppleness and function of your fascial system.

🔁 Pair regular movement and mobility work, and hydration to enhance your body’s resilience from the inside out.

Massage isn’t just about relaxation—it's a clinically supported treatment that benefits a wide range of physical and psychological conditions.

Here’s what current research shows:

1. Pain Relief & Muscle Recovery
Clinical studies (e.g., Cochrane Review, 2016) show that massage can significantly reduce lower back pain, tension-type headaches, and myofascial pain. Post-exercise massage has been found to reduce delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS) by up to 30% (Zainuddin et al., 2005).

2. Stress Reduction & Mental Health
Massage therapy has been associated with reduced cortisol levels (up to 31%) and increased serotonin and dopamine—neurotransmitters tied to mood regulation (Field, 2014). This makes it a beneficial for anxiety, depression, and general stress management.

3. Flexibility & Joint Mobility
Myofascial release and targeted soft tissue techniques have been shown to improve range of motion and reduce stiffness, particularly in individuals with musculoskeletal dysfunction (Ajimsha et al., 2015).

4. Enhanced Performance
While massage may not directly improve strength or speed, it helps maintain tissue quality and reduce injury risk through better biomechanics and reduced fascial restrictions (Poppendieck et al., 2016).

Bottom line:
Massage and soft tissue therapy offer real, evidence-backed benefits—whether you're managing pain, training hard, or simply aiming to function at your best.

Invest in your recovery. The science backs it.

Struggling with fibromyalgia?

The chronic pain, fatigue, and brain fog are real — and so is the science behind managing it. Emerging research shows that strength training isn’t just safe for those with fibromyalgia — it can actually reduce symptoms and improve quality of life.
