2024 has come to an end and wow what a year it has been, I have got so many amazing clients and a huge thank you for this year, it has been a pleasure treating all of you and hope to continue coming into 2025 ♥️ so there is a reason I have been a little quiet on any socials in the latter part of this year, bring on May 2025 for a little baby Barrass-Evans entering the world ♥️
After a few lovely 🙄 gynaecology operations and invasive treatments over the past two years, it is very exciting and Charlie and I are (terrified) and super looking forward to meeting them in May 😊
I have also suffered with some pretty lovely sickness throughout the pregnancy which has created some difficulties, vomiting ginger tea on my dogs head was not my proudest moment 🫣🤦🏼‍♀️ I will always seek to be honest on here and I have probably felt at my loneliest and weakest during the particularly bad months, Charlie (my hubby) and my close family have been amazing and Charlie has been my rock and I really couldn’t have done any of this without him and his permanent positivity and just being a general sunshine 🌞(when i have certainly been a storm ⛈️🤮)
Wishing you all the best 2025 year possible and can’t wait to see you all soon 🧡🧡🧡

As a musculoskeletal specialist, one thing I would definitely recommend choosing many many pumpkins and getting other people to lift the giant ones you’ve bought for carving 🎃🎃🎃

Had the best day with wonderful people choosing pumpkins and eating lots of apples at Blackmoor Apple day, I hope you all have been having an amazing sunny weekend ☀️☀️
Also got to treat many amazing dogs and have many cuddles in return! 🥰

Muscle Monday 💪🏼🐴

🔥The Brachiocephalic 🔥

Origin- mastoid process and nuchal crest of the skull, and the wing of the atlas and transverse process of C2-5

Insertion - The deltoid tuberosity and crest of the Humerus (shoulder joint).

Functions: (there are multiple)

🔥laterally flexing the neck
🔥 draws the front leg forward
🔥extends the head and neck

(So pretty important for your horses neck and shoulder stability and strength)

In some of the horses and ponies I see day to day there is shortness of the muscle and pain response and restriction in some of the horses I treat; there are loads of ways to help it with stretching, adjustments and exercises!

But what causes tension here?

☀️ Poor training practice:
So the use of tight side reins/draw reins, or being a heavy handed rider can have a negative affect on this muscle, as it shortens it, restricting movement into the neck, shoulder and head, causing the ‘upside down neck’.
The horses neck is essential for their neurology the tension here you may risk potential injuries.
The key training issue is we don’t want to pin the horses head down, we want to work on their self carriage and balance.
☀️Poor posture

☀️Trauma and injury

I will be popping some stretching ideas up in a few days to help you guys if you think your horse has some tension in these areas. Let me know any of questions and hopefully I can help 🤩

Is ball throwing bad? 🎾🎾😱

So recently my absolute bestie Dora had a back injury, considering I treat her regularly and she is fit and healthy (although her love for cheese is unnatural 🧀)
Had I overlooked an issue, or is it something with her lifestyle…

Now Dora loves a ball, and as habit we throw it and she loves it 🥹
So although no inherently bad for dogs, there are situations where us can be:

🎾 when throwing the ball repeatedly can cause a repetitive strain injury, especially on hard surfaces
🎾 especially in larger breeds of dogs, over exercising can exacerbate joint issues
🎾 over exertion and heat exhaustion, dogs can over heat quickly especially in the summer so be careful when getting them to do big runs
🎾 Lack of mental stimulation- although really good for physical exercise when done properly, it doesn’t really help their brains - so using a snuffle mat, getting them to seek out a hidden treat or toy can be as beneficial for them

So after some meds and rest for Dora she is back to being fighting for, we have also started her on a joint supplement to help her moving forward as well as regular treatments - where I get to see that little face ♥️♥️
Responsible play and understanding your doggies limits and needs are key to ensuring that ball throwing is a safe activity for your dogs.

Thank you for these awesome piccies - need to get some new ones soon 🧡

Oh and the joint supplement I use is joint max- super easy and palatable for them (thank you for the recommendation 🧡)

🍁Before & After🍁

This is a wonderful little horse and I have worked with her and her amazing owner for a few years 🤩☀️

As you can see from the first picture Casi had a slight twist on the right thoracic, base of wither area pulling onto the rib cage on the right, the left pelvis was also slightly higher the sacroiliac was more restricted on the left.
I was super pleased with how she released and adjusted, we spent time whilst adjusting, releasing the musculature surrounding like her trapezius and brachiocephalic 💪🏼

Super pleased with how well she reacted to treatment 🧡
Any questions let me know in the comments 🍁🍁
