Stuck in fight or flight? Chronic stress? I've not come across anything as powerful as Bowen for resetting the nervous system and bringing calm. These are the conditions in which healing can take place across the entire organism.

This time of year can stir up big emotions — but your nervous system may hold more hope than you realise.

While Christmas is a time of connection and celebration for some, it can also amplify feelings of loneliness, stress, and depression for many others.

The good news? Emerging research is offering new hope.

A clinical trial of 493 people with major, treatment-resistant depression found that stimulating the vagus nerve — the vital communication pathway between the brain and major organs — led to meaningful improvements in mood, daily function, and overall wellbeing.

👉 And this is where Bowen Therapy has something to offer.

Bowen Therapy includes a vagus nerve procedure, and like all Bowen moves, its aim is to guide the body out of “fight or flight” and into the parasympathetic “rest and digest” state where healing becomes possible.

While the clinical trial used an implanted device, Bowen Therapy works with the body’s own healing intelligence — with no drugs, no force, and no equipment. Just precise, mindful touch designed to help the nervous system settle.

Because the vagus nerve connects — and so does Bowen.

Research published in Brain Stimulation.

Dealing with anxiety, burnout or chronic pain? Bowen therapy is a wonderfully gentle yet incredibly effective bodywork technique that helps the body to rebalance and the nervous system settle, process and recalibrate.

Chronic emotional stress doesn’t just live in the mind — it changes how the body feels pressure.

When the nervous system is under long-term strain, its threshold for “normal” sensation drops. Touch that should feel neutral can register as discomfort. Muscles brace. Fascia tightens. The whole system becomes more reactive.

This heightened pressure sensitivity is something many practitioners recognise in their clients, especially those dealing with anxiety, burnout or long-standing pain.

And it’s exactly why gentle, rhythm-based approaches like Bowen Therapy can be so effective.

Because instead of overwhelming the system, Bowen works under the pain threshold — using light, targeted moves and spacious pauses to help the nervous system settle, process and recalibrate.

For clients who are already overstimulated, this kind of work meets them where they are: safely, quietly, without force.

A reminder that not all change requires pressure.
Sometimes the smallest input creates the biggest shift.

Do you have or know anyone with fatty liver?

Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), now renamed as Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MDASLD), is a metabolic disorder which is becoming more and more common with our modern diet and lifestyle. Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver occurs when, per the name, fat deposits builds up in the liver due to causes other than alcohol intake. In its initial stages, it is hard to detect and simply results in a slight impairment of liver function, but if no action is taken and the disease progresses, further inflammation develops, leading to scar tissue in the liver (fibrosis) and eventually cirrhosis.

Click the link below to learn more about the causes of NAFLD, and how it can be prevented or supported, from both a mainstream medical as well as naturopathic perspective.

Basic advice but so many people do this! A restorative sleep is essential for so many functions in the body. Prioritise it!

Are you guilty of sleeping next to your cell phone?

These devices put out invisible electromagnetic fields (EMFs) that interact with your body’s electrical fields in the brain, heart, and deep in the cells.

In addition to disrupting sleep, EMF exposure may play a role in:
-High blood pressure
-High pulse rate
-Decreased cognitive function (memory, focus, and concentration)
-Increased inflammation
-Mood changes
-Increased risk of stroke
-Increased risk of heart attack
-DNA damage

For this reason, it’s important to keep your cell phone and other devices away from your body whenever possible, especially while sleeping.

Lots of apples this autumn? Try this delicious and healthy apple sauce recipe! Quick and easy to make and goes perfectly with morning porridge.

Super soothing and nurturing for the gut!

Did you know that a simple jar of homemade apple sauce can do wonders for our microbiome?

Apples are packed with pectin, a soluble fibre that acts as a prebiotic, meaning it feeds our beneficial gut bacteria and helps them thrive. A healthy microbiome supports digestion, immunity, and even mood balance!

The best part? Homemade apple sauce is free from the excess sugars and additives often found in shop-bought versions, and it’s so easy to make.

🍎 Simple homemade apple sauce 🍎

🍏 6 medium apples (ideally organic, leave the skins on if tolerated, or peel if you prefer a smoother sauce)
🍏 120 ml water (fresh apple juice for a sweeter result)
🍏 1 tsp cinnamon (anti-inflammatory and helps blood sugar regulation)
🍏 ½ tsp ground ginger (optional supports digestion)
🍏 1–2 tsp lemon juice (helps preserve and balance flavour)

Optional microbiome support:

⭐️ 1 tbsp ground flaxseed or chia seeds (extra prebiotic fibre and omega-3s)
⭐️ A small handful of berries stirred in at the end (polyphenols feed gut microbes)

Method:

1️⃣ Core and chop the apples (skin on if possible for more fibre and pectin).
2️⃣ Place apples, water, cinnamon, ginger, and lemon juice in a pan.
3️⃣ Cover and simmer on a low heat for 15–20 minutes until apples are soft.
4️⃣ Mash with a fork for chunky sauce, or blend for a smooth consistency.
5️⃣ If using flax / chia, stir in while the sauce is still warm and let it thicken. Add berries just before serving if desired.

Store in the fridge for up to a week or freeze in portions. Enjoy warm over porridge or stirred into overnight oats.

Your gut bacteria will thank you!

⚠️ Eat with caution in cases of SIBO as will also feed unbeneficial bacteria.

Do all you can to minimise exposure to plastics - especially for children. Proven to disrupt the endocrine system, reduce IQ and fertility, increase the risk of asthma and heart issues.

A sweeping review from NYU Langone Health reveals that everyday exposure to chemicals used to make plastic household items - especially during childhood - poses lasting risks for heart disease, infertility, asthma, and even brain development issues. These chemicals, found in packaging, cosmetics, and common household items, can disrupt hormones, ignite chronic inflammation, and lower IQ.
