๐ง ๐ World Lewy Body Day โ 28 January ๐๐ง
Today weโre shining a light on Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) โ one of the most common, yet under-recognised, types of dementia.
Lewy Body Dementia is caused by abnormal protein deposits in the brain and can affect people in complex ways, including:
โจ Fluctuating attention and alertness
๐ถโโ๏ธ Movement difficulties similar to Parkinsonโs
๐๏ธ Visual hallucinations
๐ด Sleep disturbances and changes in behaviour
LBD can be challenging not only for those living with it, but also for families, carers and healthcare professionals โ often taking time to diagnose correctly.
๐
World Lewy Body Day is held on 28 January, marking the birthday of Dr Fritz Lewy, who first identified the condition. Today is about:
๐น Raising awareness
๐น Improving understanding and diagnosis
๐น Supporting those affected
๐น Driving research forward
By talking about Lewy Body Dementia, we help ensure people receive the understanding, care and support they deserve.
๐ฌ Letโs keep the conversation going โ awareness truly makes a difference.
