A R F I D 🥑
Officially classed as an eating disorder as per the DSM-5, Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) represents a reformulation of what used to be called “Feeding Disorder of Infancy or Early Childhood.
-
It can be extremely distressing for families and is not simply ‘very fussy eating’ (but is often mistaken for and vice versa). As with all eating disorders, treatment requires a multi-disciplinary approach and can take time ❤️‍🩹

L U N C H 🍲
I often have clients say to me that lunches (and snacks) are a challenge. Especially in the week when time is poor, inspiration is low and the 3pm cravings are strong. This is why it’s best to strip it back to basics, follow this simple formula and you can throw together a lunch in minutes. For more lunch suggestions, comment LUNCH below and I’ll send over my top three throw it together lunches 🍲🌮🥙🍴🥗🍱

J U I C E🧃
The nutrition/wellness/whatever you want to call it world seems so decisive and dogmatic to me at the moment. Either you need to be eating loads of protein or you need to be fibermaxxing. Avoid all ultra processed foods but also supplement hard. But also don’t bother with probiotics. And remember to heal your nervous system (Yawn). But also everyone’s different. But also you should ALL do these things all the time.
-
This is especially true for parents who want to do the best for their kids. Let’s take juice for eg. We’ve been told that it is not great for children because of the high sugar content and lack of fibre. And whilst this is true (there is a loss of dietary fibre when fruit isn’t eaten whole), juice is also high in antioxidants, hydration and important vitamins and minerals. Crucially, for some children, it is the only form of fruit and vegetables they can get.
-
My middle child would live off juice (and only juice) if she could so I try and be a little inventive when it comes to her. This smoothie - made of avocado, flax seeds, h**p seeds, kale, banana AND apple juice - tastes sweet enough for her to accept (sometimes), the texture is smooth and not too thick (although she will only have it if she can’t see it) and I know has more healthy fats, protein, fibre, omega-3 and vitamins than the juice alone and so will help balance her blood sugar and give her extra nutrients.

-
All food has a place and remember that even though a lot of what we are told is important, it is SO much more nuanced than that. My advice is always start small, simply and focus on what you can add in rather than take out.
-
Is your child obsessed with juice or smoothies?

So I’ve set up a Community Interest Company (a CIC for short)!! For those of you who don’t know what this is (like I didn’t before meeting ), it’s a company that is set up for the good of the community. Meaning all profits be invested back into the community. It also means I can apply for funding from various places WHICH MEANS I can offer services for very little (or free) thus benefitting those who need it the most 🥰
-
I am SO excited about it and have great plans ✍️ (and it was no mean feat for someone who can’t even fill out a simple form!!)

Look out for the following coming soon:

💃 workshops on nutrition and health topics such as fussy eating, ARFID, cooking on a budget and lots more
💃 weaning courses
💃 more bump to baby brunches
💃 shared lunches/supper clubs
💃 after school cookery clubs for primary aged children and pre-school cookery clubs
💃post-partum support
…. And loads more!
-
The focus will be on nourishing the village in all the ways it should be nourished ❤️ sustainably, inclusively and with care.
