To become fit and healthy, the first thing you need to do is learn to love the skin you are in…

How do you expect your body to move you if all you only think negatively about it?

It’s a process, it won’t happen over night, think of it this way, if you are overweight, you didn’t just suddenly eat too much one weekend and think geez, or if you are unfit, it will have been a period of time you have not moved your body enough!

But your body, no matter what it feels like right now is amazing. Go back to the beginning, it grew from a tiny baby into the person you are now, your brain has taken on huge amounts of knowledge and stimulation over the years, you may have created other beings, and are caring and nourishing them - it’s time to put everything into perspective and LOVE your body!

The best way you can do this is give it the respect it deserves, feed it well, food is fuel for that cliche! Don’t look at food as rewards, and certainly don’t look at exercise as punishment!
Move it more, our legs are strong and powerful, take them on walks, start small, work up!

Don’t throw years away saying that you are too busy, or I’ll start soon - small changes now, lead to big changes to your whole life

Unilateral training is key for everyone, especially runners.

We have spent our whole life moving each side of our body slightly differently, and we need to train each side separately to attempt to even ourselves out - very important to minimise those pesky injuries!

One I suggest to all, are single leg deadlifts, they don’t need to be heavy, they just need to be consistent - give them a go!

Accountability!

This is a huge ‘buzz’ word these days, but we can’t deny it really, having someone to keep you accountable helps you stay on the straight and narrow when it comes to food and training

This can be a friend, partner, or of course, me! Better yet, book personal training sessions with a friend, you get double the accountability, fun, and half the cost!

Running comes in all shapes and sizes. And pretty much anyone can do it. It’s not all super fast races and ultramarathons, it’s couch to 5k, it’s run/walking, it’s catching up with friends, it’s fresh air and exercise, it’s a mental break.

You don’t need an end goal of breaking any records, you just need one that’s personal to you, most people don’t realise what they can achieve, so don’t even try… is that you…?

As mums we often carry on blaming baby brain for our memory loss of simple tasks even once our little ones are passed that baby stage - quite simply, this is down to the huge mental load we mothers have!

School reminders, after school activities, work messages, keeping a home, maintaining friendships and relationships, as well as managing our own health and well-being is a lot for our brain to contain, and it’s often the little things that slip our mind and makes us feel we are daft 🤦🏻‍♀️

We need to run away from the idea of wanting it all

You want to lose weight? You NEED to be in a calorie deficit, if you are not losing weight, chances are high that you are not counting everything, or that you are guessing portion sizes and not weighing it out…

In an already busy life, it can feel ridiculous to do this, where can I find the time to weigh out my dinner ingredients, I totally get this!

Either just find the time for a few weeks, so you can see what you are REALLY eating, or make healthy choices where you can, and stop giving your body and scales a hard time when they don’t change 🤷🏻‍♀️

Now gym etiquette is one thing, but how you speak to another human being in any location sometimes needs addressing…

At the gym today, I was minding my own business doing lunges, and I get a remark across the room of ‘get on girl, move your arse’ THIS IS NOT OKAY!!

We sadly live in a world where women are still objectified, and expected to be a certain way, I am not in the gym to move any part of my body to your benefit, viewing, and I definitely do not need your version of ‘motivational’ speak

Let me clarify, it is never ok to speak to someone like that, a gym can be an intimidating place, some feel already uncomfortable in that environment.

If you ever feel uncomfortable by what someone says in the gym, DO speak up and let a member of staff know - we need to create these places to be equal

So what would you have done in this situation?

God I love sessions with she smiles 80% of the time, the other 20% she’s possibly giving me daggers…

However, she’s doing bloody fantastic, she’s got massively onto of the nutrition the last few weeks, and has lost a whopping 10lbs in the last 2 weeks 👌🏻

Regularly checking in with her, making sure her energy levels and positivity is still on top form too shows that not only is she looking wonderful, she’s also feeling it too 🙌🏻

Personally, I find that routine is the best way to sticking to good habits, although I’ve also heard that that makes me more likely to be murdered… 🤔

How do you find it easiest to stick to your exercise and healthy eating?

FYI, I also read that the most common car for murderers is a Renault scenic, for more weird random facts, you should definitely stay tuned 😆

Home workouts are ideal for the busy parent, life these days dictate that we don’t have an endless amount of time to dedicate to ourselves, but it is important that you find some to focus on you, it’s not just about that individual hour, it’s the benefits that you reap as you get fitter and healthier…

Imagine keeping up with your child when they want to kick the ball in the field….

What is perfection?

The kids always playing nicely with wholesome wooden toys?

A healthy nutritious meal cooking away on the stove, that all the household mouths will enjoy together and talk happily about their days?

A clean and tidy home, with an empty clothes basket and full ironed wardrobe

A slim and strong body, moving swiftly and nimbly through the well lit path of life’s wondrous self?

We may need to start looking at managing expectations!!

Kids will battle, sometimes cheese on toast will be a meal, what colour is my carpet supposed to be why does my tummy button look more like a va**na these days 🤔

The ones you see that look like they have that first version of life, don’t, they may try and show their life to be perfect, and that may be their coping mechanism, so leave them be, and just know that what you are doing is still awesome 👌🏻
