Funky Friday is an inclusive monthly social event to get young adults with additional needs mixing, chatting and dancing. Friends and siblings welcome.

Funky Friday Inclusive Discos are held monthly at The Navy Club, Bellman's Yard, High Street, Newport TF10 7AJ. The are social events aimed at getting young people aged 15 years plus with additional needs mixing, chatting and dancing. The idea is to give these young people the opportunity to have a typical night out with friends and family. Organiser Val Edgley of Newport says “I have been wanting

to put on an event like for a long time. There is real gap in social opportunities for young people with disabilities in Telford & Wrekin, especially once they get over the age of 25. Also there are lots of group activities during the week but nothing at the weekend. We think our young people should be able to go out on a Friday night and socialise like any other teenager or young adult.”
Parent Helen says “It’s really important for young people with disabilities to mix with others and learn social skills and how to act when they go out. Funky Friday gives them the opportunity to do this, rather than sitting at home by themselves, gaming or watching TV.”
Parent Sandra says “I like the idea they can get active and dance. My son James loves dancing and could dance for hours!”

The young people love funky Friday too:
Georgie says “I look forward to dancing and being sociable on a Friday night”
Ben says ”Funky Friday gets me off my X-Box!”
Sam says “I love music and dancing – it makes my weekend more exciting”
Dan says “It’s fun and laughter amongst friends – a great night out!”

Funky Friday really appreciates the support we have been given by The Navy Club in Newport. It’s a great venue with a stage for the DJs, a dance floor and a bar. Plus there is a separate room where parents and carers can sit and chat if they want. The music is provided by Music Mix DJs – they are great guys and really responsive to the requests for songs from the young people. They enjoy adapting the music for themed discos like Halloween and Christmas. Funky Friday takes place (usually) on 3rd Friday of every month @ The Navy Club, Bellman’s Yard. Newport, Shropshire, TF10 7AJ
Funky Friday is for young people aged 15+ with Additional Needs/Disabilities. Pay on the door. £4 per young person/sibling/friend; Carers free.

⛱️ 🌞 It was the Summer Beach Party tonight at Funky Friday and everyone enjoyed the visit from Pete's Ice Cream van plus dancing to the great tunes from our guest DJ Charlies Discos!
Thank you also to Ann & Ruby from Safe Places Shropshire for bringing us the info on this useful safety scheme.

👕 Wear your favourite, colourful summer outfit!
🎶 Our guest DJ this month will be Charlies Discos , so get ready with your top summer dance tune requests.
🍦Pete's Ice cream van will be calling by to bring us all some cool treats.
💛 Safe Places Shropshire will also be here again with info on their fab scheme.

💃🕺 No pre-booked tickets are necessary—just show up and pay at the door.
🕺 Please don't arrive too early as we might not be ready to let you in. We don’t want anyone waiting in the heat or rain.
💰 If possible, please have your cash payment ready when you arrive.

The ladies from Safe Places Shropshire will be with us on Friday. Come along and find out more about this fantastic scheme and pick up a card for anyone that needs one.

This Friday, 18th July, we will be at Funky Friday Inclusive Disco Funky Friday Inclusive Disco at Newport Navy Club, at Bellman's Yard, High Street, Newport TF10 7AJ. This fantastic evening starts at 7pm and finishes at 9pm. We are looking forward to seeing everyone again for a fab evening. This months theme is "Summer Beach Party." That means the Ice Cream van will be there to keep us all cool. See you there.

🔴 It was very RED on the dance floor tonight for our Red Nose Day Disco!
🔴 The fab Red Nose Day bucket hats were won by Tom & Georgie!
🔴 We raised £120 for Comic Relief from the raffle & donation bucket. Thank you to all who bought raffle tickets and donated prizes.
🧦 It was also today so quite a few people were wearing their colourful odd socks

All ages are welcomeat these inclusive online discos.

Feel free to dress up according to the theme or get yourself a fancy Zoom background. Request the music you love to dance to via the chat box in the disco.

A great way to keep in touch with friends and family during the pandemic restrictions. The online discos are FREE of CHARGE to all attendees.
