January can be a fresh start, but it doesn't mean that the pressure to drink disappears. Recognising pressure, and having steps in place to help you keep control, can be helpful.

Below are a few practical ways to navigate pressure around drinking:
➡️ Be aware of situations where you might be pressured to drink and plan for this beforehand.
➡️ Plan activities that don’t involve drinking.
➡️ Set a limit for events where you are likely to experience pressure.
➡️ Tell someone you trust that you want to stick to a limit so they can have your back.
➡️ Set expectations with others in advance that you won’t be drinking.

Being able to combat pressure to drink can make a big difference when it comes to being in control of your intake.

UK health guidelines recommend drinking no more than 14 units a week, spread over several days.

Thinking about keeping track or cutting back for 2026? Check out these simple tips to help you stay in control ⬇️
❌ Avoid rounds as these can make you drink for the sake of it.
⏳ Pace yourself. Drink slowly to make it last.
✅ Opt for some alcohol-free drinks in between.

We don’t tend to share Police posts often 🙄🫣
But some essential advice for the next couple of days.
Please check on any elderly or vulnerable friends, family or neighbours x

⚠️Driving conditions are likely to be difficult over the next couple of days as brings snow, strong winds and heavy rain.

⚠️The Met Office has issued weather warnings for snow for Thursday and Friday, so take extra care if you do need to travel during adverse conditions.

🚗Motorists:
❄️Plan your route before setting off.

❄️Check wiper blades, tyres and screenwash levels.

❄️Before setting off, take the time to make sure your windscreen is completely clear. Clear any ice or snow, fully demist the inside of your windscreen and ensure any snow is removed from your roof. Don’t forget your lights, wing mirrors and side/back windows to ensure they are also clear.

❄️When driving, reduce your speed. Keep well back from the vehicle in front and allow plenty of time to slow down – it can take up to ten times longer to stop in snowy or icy conditions.

❄️Use your lights in dull weather conditions.

❄️Pack essentials such as an ice scraper, warm clothes, blanket, torch, food/drink and an in-car phone charger or battery pack.

🚶‍♀️‍➡️Pedestrians:
❄️Take extra care when walking, even on roads/paths which have been treated.
❄️Think about your visibility and ensure other road users can see you.

ℹ️ Follow the Met Office for the latest weather news and for more advice on driving in adverse weather conditions, check the Highway Code: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code/driving-in-adverse-weather-conditions-226-to-237
