🌙 World Sleep Day at Roden Hall

We marked World Sleep Day at Roden Hall by embracing the comfort of a truly relaxing day. Spending the day in our pyjamas was lovely for everyone involved and helped highlight the importance of good sleep and rest for wellbeing.

In the evening, residents gathered in the lounge to enjoy some quiet company while watching a little nighttime TV to help wind down. Everyone enjoyed a cup or two of their favourite hot drinks — Trish was especially pleased to be offered Horlicks, and Pam said it would help her relax.

To create a calm and cosy atmosphere, the lights at Roden were turned off and the halls were softly lit with lamps and sidelights. Some residents were also treated to relaxing hand massages in bed to help them drift off peacefully.

A perfect way to slow down, relax and celebrate the importance of a good night’s sleep.

We were delighted to welcome a new singer to Roden Hall – Tom Byrne this week!

Tom was a big hit with residents, performing classics from Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard and Neil Diamond. Residents enjoyed clapping, singing and dancing along throughout the performance.

Christine and Jean took pride of place in the front row, singing along to every song, while Ron couldn’t resist joining in too. There was even a little dance from Jean and Josie from our housekeeping team!

Christine was absolutely delighted with Tom’s singing and said she can’t wait for him to return. It was a wonderful afternoon of music and smiles for everyone.

Lights, camera, action at Roden Hall!

This week, residents enjoyed their weekly cinema afternoon watching The Greatest Showman, a film many were excited to see for the first time.

Everyone settled in with their favourite snacks — popcorn, pic’n’mix and even a ginger beer, which brought back memories for Joyce who said she hadn’t had one in years!

Once the lights dimmed, residents sat back and enjoyed the show, with Sue, Joyce and Christine saying how brilliant the film was — especially Zac Efron’s character.

Residents at Roden Hall enjoyed a lively game of Boccia, filled with friendly competition, fun and a little exercise too.

The blue team, Sue and Joyce, took on the red team, Pam and Pat in a series of very competitive games. Joyce especially got stuck in for her first time playing and quickly got into the spirit of the game!

There were plenty of laughs along the way, and the final round was incredibly close. With the score at 2–1 to the reds, the final ball was so close that Sam had to bring out the digital measuring tape to decide the result! In the end, it finished 2–2, making it a well-earned tie.

Both teams played brilliantly and had a fantastic time. Sam and Chelsie also enjoyed getting involved, with Chelsie even sharing some tips from her own experience as a competitive bowls player!

Pam has been busy getting creative with her knitting at Roden Hall

Using a pattern book kindly gifted to the home by one of our lovely residents, Pam has been learning new designs and creating some wonderful knitted toys ready for future stalls. With a little help from our Customer Administrator Sam, who stitched them together, Pam has now completed her very first batch of adorable teddies.

Pam has enjoyed working on them during our Knit and Natter sessions as well as spending some relaxing time in the evenings finishing off her creations. Today she proudly showed them off to everyone – and we couldn’t resist sharing them too!

They are a fantastic achievement and we’re so proud of Pam’s creativity and dedication.

Residents enjoyed a wonderful games morning in Berringtons Café at Roden Hall.

The ladies gathered together to play an array of their favourite games. Christine had a go at Battleships for the very first time, which quickly turned into a game of Scrabble – her favourite! Pam, Ruth and Pat enjoyed their own lively game of Sevens, while Nan teamed up with staff for a game of Boggle.

There was lots of laughter around the tables and everyone agreed they had a great time. The ladies love a games morning to lift their spirits – and even if we’re not always sure how to play, it’s always great fun learning together!

All of this was enjoyed alongside the residents’ favourite “posh” coffees, as they like to call them.

Residents at Roden Hall Care Home were delighted to welcome students from The Oaks School as part of World Book Day and Careers Week.

Residents shared stories from their lives and careers, read newspapers and poems together, and chatted about their favourite books. The boys were particularly interested in John, who brought along his book bag full of memories and experiences from his working life.

Students also enjoyed a tour of the home, learning about the different roles within the team — with the cinema room proving especially popular! The morning ended with a wonderful surprise as one student played the piano beautifully.

Card Making with a Personal Touch at Roden Hall

We enjoyed a relaxing and creative morning at Roden Hall, bringing residents together to make handmade cards for family and friends.

The session gave everyone the chance to add personal touches for upcoming birthdays and thank-you messages. Pam loved experimenting with different designs before choosing her perfect finishing touches. Ruth made cards for her sister and nephew, carefully selecting a lamb design for her nephew, who is currently lambing on his farm. Elaine created a thoughtful thank-you card for those who have supported her recently.

It was a lovely morning spent celebrating family, friendship, and creativity—making those we care about feel extra special with something handmade.
