Learning to lipread helps you to feel less isolated when in a noisy environment. A little lipreading skill helps you to stay connected when listening is difficult. This particular problem is not isolated to people with hearing loss! People with perfectly good hearing would benefit from a little lipreading when the room is noisy and frenetic.

I totally disagree with this sentiment by some of my BSL friends, 98% of children with no or little hearing are born to hearing parents whose first language is the language of their country, it’s there right to decide if the child needs Assistive devices

Hearing loss is on the rise and it is more common than you think. Loud sounds can damage your ears, leading to hearing loss or ringing in the ears (tinnitus).

Check out WHO’s tips to protect your hearing and care for your ears:

✅ Get regular hearing check-ups
✅ Use assistive technology if recommended
✅ Request a hearing test for your children or anyone above age 50
