There are many myths about mental illness that create stigma, make people feel ashamed, and prevent them from getting the support they need. Believing these myths can also make it harder for friends, families, and support workers to know how to help.

Knowing the facts helps us respond with understanding and compassion, reduce discrimination, and create safer, more inclusive communities for everyone. It also reminds us that mental health challenges are common, treatable, and nothing to be embarrassed about.

Please share this post so more people can learn the truth, challenge harmful myths, and help break down the barriers that stop people from getting the support they deserve.

Support work is not only physical or practical. A large part of the role is emotional, and much of that work is unseen.

It means staying calm when situations are tense, offering reassurance when someone is distressed, and carrying responsibility for others’ wellbeing while managing your own emotions. It means listening carefully, responding thoughtfully, and showing up again and again, even on difficult days.

This kind of work takes energy, resilience, and professionalism. Recognising emotional labour matters, because when staff are supported, care is safer, more consistent, and more compassionate for everyone involved.

It’s Fluffy Friday 🐾

Pets have a habit of brightening even the toughest weeks.
If you’ve got a furry, feathery, or scaly friend who always lifts your mood, share their name in the comments.

For a bit of fun, reply to someone else and guess what kind of animal their pet is just from the name.

Sometimes a smile is enough to end the week on a lighter note.

STOMP is a national campaign that aims to stop the over-medication of people with a learning disability, autistic people, or both.

It encourages safer prescribing, regular medication reviews, and the use of personalised, non-medication support wherever possible.

Please share this post to help spread awareness of STOMP and why it matters.

Sometimes you just need someone to listen without judgement. That’s where Samaritans comes in.

📞 Call 116 123 anytime, day or night. It’s free and confidential.

You don’t need to have all the answers or even know exactly what to say. Talking to someone neutral can make a difference when work feels heavy or life feels overwhelming.

Reaching out doesn’t make you weak — it makes you human.

Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, known as DoLS, are a legal framework designed to protect people who may not be able to consent to their care or treatment.

They ensure that any restrictions are lawful, necessary, proportionate, and in the person’s best interests, while protecting their rights, dignity, and freedom.

Please share this post to help increase understanding of DoLS and why they matter.

Person-centred care is about respect, choice, and flexibility.

It recognises that everyone’s experiences and needs are different and that effective support must reflect this. When care is truly person-centred, people feel heard, valued, and involved in decisions about their lives.

May my morning coffee give me the strength to make it to my mid-morning coffee. May my mid-morning coffee give me the strength to make it to the tea break. May the tea break give me enough strength to survive the afternoon.
