What fun we had with this boy!!

Fox came by the centre recently for a physiotherapy check over to address any areas to help improve his posture for his showing career. He was such a fabulous boy and we’re wishing him all the best for his future in the show ring!! 😀🐶

You’re welcome back anytime Fox!

Flye’s sessions used to start off with a lot more nerves and restlessness. Not more recently!! He’s very used to his physiotherapy sessions now, and can be seen having a nap after treatment 😆

As some of you know, a few weeks ago I started a new role working alongside the wonderful team of physio’s at Willows Veterinary Centre and Referral Service. I’m excited to learn more, and gain the experiences of working in a referral setting.

Because of this, it means I’m currently away from work on a Thursday.. I just want to say thank you to everyone that’s been very adaptable with their appointments to make this work 🤗

I’ll still be around Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday’s as normal for all your dog’s physio/hydro sessions! 🐶

Meet Darcy!

We’ve recently had Darcy in the centre for an initial
physiotherapy assessment with the aim to carry out hydrotherapy. Darcy has had surgery for a luxating patella (kneecap). The aim is to build some muscle on the affected leg, and make her feel more comfortable! 😁 she’s a very sweet girl!

This week we had Obi in!!

Obi is a very sweet boy who has recently been diagnosed with Elbow Dysplasia (via x-rays). He’s lost a little muscle mass surrounding the affected elbow, so our plan is to improve his musculature around his elbow joint, manage pain and increase his exercise accordingly. Next up for Obi, a splash in the water at hydro 💦

Hard to believe this boy was non-ambulatory (not able to walk) 4 weeks ago after a suspected spinal/disc injury. After a few physiotherapy sessions, we’ve seen some noticeable progress. Caesar had his first hydrotherapy this week and look at him go 🥹.. hopefully the start of a long journey to getting him fully back on his feet!

Older dogs find it harder to exercise for as long, and prefer sleeping instead (which is beneficial)… However, moving can help prevent stiffness, pain and muscle atrophy. If we can tailor walks to suit their needs, movement can help.

For example, choosing to walk on grass which is less impactful on their joints and making the most of sniffing instead of distance/duration for mental stimulation too.

It doesn’t have to be on walks, stretching their legs to head down the garden can massively help too for the more senior dogs!

This week we helped Neveah with an orthotic!
Neveah has been tripping on her right front leg, has some laxity within her wrist joint and has less confidence on walks because of this.

After an assessment (including neuro) we felt that a scandiorthopedic grade 2.5 carpal brace was a good option to support her wrist and give her more confidence on walks. She took to it right away… now it’s time to slowly break her into it! 😬
