TCC Play and Creative Arts Therapy

TCC Play and Creative Arts Therapy Play and Creative Arts Therapy in Shropshire - supporting emotional well-being I am an accredited Play and Creative Arts Therapist, working in Shropshire.

I have worked in a variety of schools and settings, in many different roles over the past 12 years, working with children and young people aged between 3 and 26. I am also a creative clinical supervisor working with trainee and qualified Play Therapists. Please explore my page and feel free to send me a message if you would like more information. How Play Therapy works:

It is often easier for children and young people to explore their thoughts and feelings through play and creative materials, making sense of what they are feeling, and 'showing' it to the adult, especially when they might not have the words to describe it. Play Therapy provides a space in which to explore these feelings and emotions, with a therapist trained to attune to the young person's feelings, and help them bring about change, particularly in relation to how they see themselves, the world, and others. Play also enables a young person to disconnect from what was said or played out, allowing them to explore feelings and actions that they think could cause them distress, and test out new ideas without claiming them as their own. Play and creative activities also connect us with our unconscious mind, those memories that we have hidden away and struggle to recall. During play, we can connect with these hidden memories and bring them out into the conscious world easier than if we had to sit and talk about them. It may be that situations (and consequently behaviours) which don't appear to have a trigger, are actually linked together, somewhere in the unconscious. Play therapy may be able to help an individual find these connections and understand why certain things cause an emotional overload. From here, they can begin to create change.

As I was sitting in my therapy room marking Postgraduate assignments on a dark and rainy Sunday afternoon, a squirrel jumped full pelt into my French doors making me jump a mile! I then watched it retry 3 times before giving up and running away. I presume this squirrel is not enjoying these damp autumn days πŸ‚πŸͺΎπŸΏοΈ

I am finally back in my therapy space, even if it is only to look at a screen! I am starting on a new strand of my therapy work, marking postgraduate assignments for APAC. It's lovely to be back with my head in the world of Play Therapy, but I have no idea how other people manage to look at a screen all day everyday at work. My eyes are so sore!

So that's me off on maternity leave, and about to take the longest break from clinical work that I've ever had. It was a very strange feeling closing my therapy room door and walking away from 12 years of Play Therapy with no set plan of when I'm returning. I will return though - this isn't an end, or even a break, I like to think of it as a pause.
I have had some incredible endings with clients and supervisees over the last few days, weeks and months, creating nature mandalas in my outdoor space, toasting marshmallows on candles, and creating gifts which hopefully will remind clients of sessions and help them continue on their journeys.
I'll still be checking emails and sharing referrals across both the Shropshire and Play to Thrive networks, but for now, my mind and body need rest, as much as they can with a 3 year old. I wonder if this baby will give me longer than the 24 hours of pre-baby maternity leave my daughter gave me... πŸ™ˆ

It's taken me a long time (about 3 years...!) to get around to posting about the development of my therapy room and garden, but as I'm tying up loose ends of paperwork and jobs today, here it is along with a write up on my website https://www.tcctherapy.co.uk/blog/tcc-therapy-room-and-garden
