Did you know that high blood pressure often has no symptoms but can lead to serious health issues like heart disease or stroke?

That's why it's important to check your blood pressure regularly.
Why it’s important:
• High blood pressure can damage your heart, kidneys and other organs.
• Early detection can help you manage and prevent more severe conditions.
• It’s quick and simple to check.

You can check your blood pressure at your local community pharmacy. Many pharmacies in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin offer free, quick blood pressure checks with no appointment needed.

There’s also an online NHS tool you can use to help you understand your readings.

Antibiotics rarely speed up recovery for these conditions and have no effect on viruses. Instead, our children’s ‘super bodies’ get to work, and most children with a normal immune system and up-to-date immunisations will recover in the same amount of time with or without antibiotics.

Think Which Service this winter for the right care, fast.

Think:

• Self-care for minor symptoms/illnesses
• NHS 111 if you’re not sure what to do or for urgent advice
• Pharmacies for minor illnesses
• GPs for ongoing care/issues
• MIUs for minor injuries
• A&E for life-threatening emergencies

Get the right care, at the right time.

Local GP Dr Jess Harvey spoke to BBC Radio Shropshire about how we can all help ease pressure on our busy hospitals this winter. 🏥

• Think NHS 111 a great resource for non-emergency medical advice.
• Think Pharmacy First for expert help with coughs, colds and flu symptoms
• Think Minor Injury Units for minor injuries that aren’t life-threatening
• In urgent, life-threatening situations, you should always go to A&E or call 999.

By using the right service, at the right time, you can access treatment much faster than heading straight to the hospital.
