Solar panels don’t clean themselves — and it matters! ☀️

Did you know that just a thin layer of dust can reduce solar panel output by up to 14% (ScienceDirect, 2024), while heavy dust, dirt and soiling – combined with shading factors – can cause losses of 40-50%? (OXFORD ACADEMIC, 2022)

Even under ‘typical’ UK conditions, performance degradation from light dirt can lead to a 3–5% annual drop in energy yield.

Spotted 🔎 Ricoh UK Products Ltd employees taking part in this year’s Big Butterfly Count! 🌼

Our teams have been stepping outside during lunchtimes and tuning into nature as part of the UK’s largest citizen science survey of butterflies – helping to monitor and protect these vital pollinators.

Why does it matter?

Butterflies are indicators of a healthy ecosystem. Changes in their populations reflect the effects of climate change, habitat loss, and pollution on biodiversity.

Taking 15 minutes to count butterflies not only contributes to national conservation data, but also supports wellbeing by encouraging time outdoors and connection with nature 🌱

Whether spotting Red Admirals on lunch breaks or counting Meadow Browns around our site in Telford, our people are proud to play a small part in a big mission.
