ICan2 Sports and Leisure My Options Young People's Service provides a range of support and activities for children and young Abuse of these pages can result in being banned from posting

The ican2 Short Breaks programme is about providing activities for children and young people living in Telford and Wrekin with a disability or additional need - children who have, or would experience, difficulty attending groups, clubs or facilities without support. Short Breaks covers a wide range of provision from universal (open to all without the need for any assessment or specialist support) through to specialist (for example hospices and overnight residential care). Children and young people are eligible for short breaks if they have a physical or learning disability, a hearing or visual impairment. It includes children with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome and children who may have challenging behaviour as a result of their learning disability. It also includes children who have complex needs and who may have palliative, life limiting or a life- threatening conditions. Each child is however a unique individual, with their own personality, needs and strengths and wishes and feelings. They are entitled to make the same choices as any other child. In addition family circumstances vary and we aim to ensure that short breaks provision to individual children reflects their particular needs. We reserve the right to remove, without notice, any disruptive, offensive or abusive posts. This includes posts that contain swearing, libellous statements, spamming or political electioneering.

My Options Young People’s Service Summer Stay & Play Scheme 2022 for Children with Disabilities

We would like to update you regarding preparations for the summer for Children with Disabilities.

My Options aim to run the Stay & Play Scheme again this summer with the venue being at The Bridge School. This scheme will be supplemented by a scheme at Arthog Outreach Centre in Wellington. However, in common with many sectors struggling to recruit staff at the moment, we are, unfortunately, in the same position and are experiencing difficulty recruiting for our summer schemes.

The difficulties in recruitment will have an impact on the number of children and young people we can support this summer.

We continue all efforts to attract and recruit staff, and any help you can give us to promote this would be appreciated, here is the link to the Play Assistant role: https://www.wmjobs.co.uk/job/123825/play-assistant-summer-stay-and-play-scheme/

Our aim is to provide support to as many children and young people as we can, but this has to be provided safely.

We will provide further updates when we have them, as we recognise how important this scheme is for you in order to plan ahead.

Therefore, our schemes will run on the same basis that the Stay & Play scheme ran last year with Telford & Wrekin Council continuing to work with families who have significant support needs through their allocated Case Workers or Social Workers.

Whilst the Stay & Play Scheme based at the Bridge School remains a scheme for pupils of who attend this school, the additional scheme at Arthog Outreach Centre will be for SEND children and young people from other schools.

Case Workers and Social Workers will be contacting families who have been allocated a place once the capacity for each scheme has been finalised.

In addition, we will continue to provide our targeted activities throughout the summer, as below:

 The Sports and Leisure sessions every Saturday 10am–2pm or 1pm-3pm - £4 per session
 In addition to this Sports & Leisure aim to provide a summer activity programme at Arthog Outreach, in Wellington, from 27 July to 3 September 10am – 12pm or 1pm-3pm - £4 per session

For more details about these sessions and how to book, please get in touch with My Options, Tel: 01952 381317 or Email: YPS@Telford.gov.uk
We remain committed to supporting children and families and we thank families for their continued understanding of the complexities and that provisions have to be based on a social care needs led risk assessment.

Telford & Wrekin Council understands that many families may find the summer holiday period challenging. If you find yourself in this position please contact your allocated worker from the Children with Disabilities Team. If you do not have an allocated worker contact Family Connect on 01952 385385.
