Elimination diets are everywhere, popular for managing conditions like IBS and eczema, but experts warn that this practice may come with a surprising consequence. For those with pre-existing conditions, removing problematic foods from the diet for too long can make the issues caused by those foods worse when they're reintroduced, and even trigger new allergies.

The immininent closure of Yeovil Hospital’s Maternity unit by tomorrow Monday will be of great concern to local expecting parents and those who are planning for a family soon. 😢

‼️ I’ll be joining a peaceful rally this Monday (19th May) from 5:00–6:00pm outside Yeovil District Hospital’s Maternity Unit, and I’m urging everyone who cares about local maternity care to come along and make their voices heard.

The closure of the maternity unit has shaken our community. I’ve heard from worried parents, concerned staff, and those heartbroken that they may no longer be able to give birth locally. With no confirmed date for reopening, the uncertainty is unacceptable.

🔸 I’m being told by local NHS staff that Taunton simply doesn’t have the capacity to safely absorb an additional 1,300 births a year — but that’s now the situation we’re in.
🔸 Families deserve better than fear, confusion and silence.
🔸 We need safe, accessible maternity services in Yeovil — now and for the future.

Bring a sign, bring your voice, and stand with us.

This isn’t just about one building — it’s about the future of care in our town. Let’s show NHS leaders and the Government that Yeovil will not be ignored.

Choosing an accredited/ registered acupuncturist

This is important to me. Why?

I trained many years ago and have been an acupuncturist since my twenties. There was always one leading professional body, The British Acupuncture Council.(BAcC) Indeed, in all complementary therapies, there were lead regulatory professional bodies.

Currently, anyone can set up a professional body, in any therapy! And start a course in anything. there is no regulation. We need regulation in acupuncture and complementary health care in the UK.

The BAcC is the ONLY acupuncture organisation to be listed on the Accredited register of the professional standards authority for health and social care. A register backed by government upholding standards in health care.

Dr Tim Child a leading fertility expert and Professor at Oxford University says:

“ “I always advise my patients considering acupuncture to work with a practitioner listed on the British Acupuncture Council Register. This accreditation ensures the practitioner has undergone proper training and adheres to professional standards that prioritise safety and effectiveness. Unfortunately, anyone can call themselves an acupuncturist—even after just a weekend course—which makes it critical to seek out a qualified, accredited practitioner. Choosing someone from The British Acupuncture Council Register is the simplest way to ensure high-quality care that minimises risks and enhances potential benefits.”

The practice of acupuncture sadly is not regulated in the UK. Anyone can offer “acupuncture treatment” even with minimal training 😔. This highlights the importance of making sure your practitioner is registered with a reputable professional body like the BAcC (British Acupuncture Council) whose members must have a minimum of 3 years degree level training.

Just because something is common doesn’t mean it’s normal—or optimal for your health. And just because many women experience it doesn’t mean it’s inherent to our biology. Being a woman is not a diagnosis.

Yet so many of us have learned to ignore our inner compass because we’ve been told that uncomfortable, painful, or unpleasant symptoms are just “normal.”

We can’t talk about women’s health without addressing two pervasive problems: the dismissal of women’s hormonal symptoms & the rampant medicalization of our bodies.

Medicalization, the social + economic control of women’s bodies, has led us to believe that our bodies are “lemons”—machines that chronically break down; that disease is inevitable; that the only “real solutions” and “right answers” are pharmaceuticals, surgery & other invasive interventions; and that science always trumps nature.

But let’s ask the real questions:
🔻Why are so many women struggling with hormone conditions?
🔻Why are 7-year-olds getting their periods?
🔻Why are women having so much trouble conceiving?
🔻Why are so many women in constant pain?

Should we accept this as the “new normal”? The answer is a resounding no.

The epidemic proportions of hormone-related conditions are a flashing red light. Something bigger is at play, and it’s time to take a new approach—one rooted in a deeper understanding of how a woman’s whole life impacts her hormones.

We have to put on a new set of lenses that are different from the broken ones we’ve been taught to see our bodies through. This is the heart of holistic gynecology: seeing your symptoms not as random discomforts or inevitable diagnoses, but as meaningful clues to underlying imbalances that can be addressed.

In my NYT bestseller, Hormone Intelligence, I teach you how to tune in to your body’s innate wisdom and understand the signs it’s sending you. Get your copy at the link in bio or wherever you prefer to buy books.

What frustrates you most about how women are treated in the medical system? Let’s discuss in the comments.

Following the publication of an update to the NICE guidelines for 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐬, questions were raised in Parliament about the waiting times for treatment and diagnosis for this often debilitating condition.

We flag the 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 pointing to what accredited acupuncturists see in their clinical practise, that 𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐩𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐬.

The British Acupuncture Council asks why, despite this evidence, acupuncture wasn't included in the NICE review? We also call for more funding for research into acupuncture for endometriosis so that people commissioning healthcare can have the evidence they need to be able to give patients access to the most effective treatments.

The British Acupuncture Council is the only independently accredited professional governing body for Traditional Acupuncturists in the UK.
