▫️ANATOMY/BIOMECHANICS ▫️

SCAPULA

The scapula is an important part of the thoracic sling. How the thoracic sling functions allows the horse to lift and shift their centre of mass backwards.

Dysfunctions or restrictions not only affect the forelimbs but cause imbalance through the entire body and can result in both fore and hindlimb range of motion (ROM) restrictions.

Scapula glide is essential through all phases of the stride. The scapula will glide side to side with slight up and down movement.

The scapula glide freedom, suppleness and strength of the shoulder musculature allow for greater limb ROM both in protraction and retraction.

Earlier in the week I treated a horse with reduced shoulder ROM and restricted scapula glide. Alongside trigger points through Latissimus dorsi.

Following myofascial release techniques and laser therapy he now has increased ROM. With a further physio session to further improve and increase his ROM.

TENDON and LIGAMENT INJURIES

Laser therapy is a useful treatment modality for tendon and ligament injuries. Laser offers a non invasive, pain free treatment to help accelerate the healing process.

Let me know if you would like to discuss using laser therapy for your horse following a tendon or ligament injury.
