If you are heading to Caspian Wood today there are road closed signs - Again!!!

But it’s not on the Highwood road, it’s on Rhyse lane from Tenbury to Eastham

So if you come from the Eastham side or main road come as normal

If you come from Tenbury avoid Rhyse Lane

Thank you

How is it Monday again already??? 😬
This year needs to slow down and take a breather!!! 😮‍💨

It looks to be a bit of a wet miserable week ☔️
We’ve done well this year for the dry warm weather so can’t complain, but now we need to make sure we keep up the self care to keep up the feel good factor. 💖

So what are your plans this week?
We are organising half terms sessions and activities here

But first things first. My non negotiable is Yoga 9.30-10.30 at Burford Village Hall with the lovely Lynney. If you need something to kick start your week and focus the mind. Why not come and join us?

What do you need to schedule in your diary to be the best version of you? It’s not selfish it’s self care and it’s essential! If you do not schedule time for you in your diary and you’re busy like me then the days just keep on rolling and you get forgotten.

So what do you need to feel good?
A massage to relieve the aches and pains?
Exercise class to destress?
Read a book in peace?
Go for a walk in nature to calm?
Get creative or practice mindfulness…..???

Whatever it is do it.
20mins- an hour a day….. 🕰️
A once a week treat….. ☕️ & 🧁
once a month- what can you do to celebrate your worth? Because you are worth it 🥰

Mums- we need to positively roll model this to our children too 🥰

‘What mask are you wearing today???’
‘ What is it hiding?’
‘Why?’

Recently I’ve had quite a few girls come to my sessions who are quite clearly masking.

It takes them a while to open up and let the ‘real’ them come out.

It’s usually girls (but can be boys too) and usually around school years 7-9 when it becomes more difficult to hide their emotions as they enter puberty. However I am seeing more and more young people struggling towards the end of primary too.

Masking can look like:
* copying to fit in
* following peer group interests instead of their own
* quiet and not wanting to stand out or be ‘different’
* Keeping everything inside until they get home when they meltdown or explode 🤯

I’ve had some interesting conversations about whether we all mask in different situations???

This may well be true however….

It’s exhausting, creates inner turmoil, and false friendships which often leads to falling out and miscommunication.

One girl stated: ‘ I’ve been masking for so long I don’t even know who I am anymore’ 😢

So what can we do???
1. Create a safe supportive space for them to open up about their feelings & friendship struggles

2. Listen and validate their emotions. Let them know you are there to help if they need

3. Be open to watch for the signs. Especially as this can be covering up bullying

4. Question whether they need more support in school or if there is neurodivergence present. They may need a diagnosis. Not to have a ‘label’. But a reason to understand themselves better and work out strategies to support them on a day to day basis.

If you know a child who is masking that needs extra support and understanding I have limited availability but can offer a space through Willows Wish. Pm for more info

What a wet & windy day today!!!☔️💨
So glad to get done early and be in the warm now!!!!

This week we have seen 6 children for equine 🐴therapy and emotional resilience coaching.
1 for animal care. Plus one new little one who braved the rain today to meet Cheeky!

Today was also a parent coach day.

Whilst I talk to children regularly about their emotion scale & emotional regulation. It is useful for us to stop and think about where we are on ours too…… are we calm and focused right now or stressed and on the ‘edge’???

When we are calm and focused we can make the best decisions, problem solve and handle whatever life throws at us, because we are regulated, allowing our nervous system to function capably and comfortably.

However, if we are stressed, anxious, over worked, over tired, or at the end of our tether, our nervous system operates from its fight or flight system. We are more easily triggered, lose patience, lose memory function and cannot make our wisest choices and decisions.

Prolonged periods in this state can lead to fatigue, depression, shut down and illness as we enter the freeze state. Our bodies need time to recover and repair.

In coaching this is symbolised by the traffic light system 🚦

💚 we are ready to go, all fuelled up and feeling good

💛 are we motivated to go or ready to stop? This is where the fight or flight system is activated

🛑 This is stop, freeze, rest, depression, wait.

Do you know where you are on your traffic light system? Right now, during different situations, or generally in life????

Do you need to 🛑 monitor your nervous system and ask yourself what it needs right now???

I love doing this exercise with both children and adults as it opens up lots of good conversation.
It’s something I think we should all know and be aware of to improve our mental wellbeing 💖

Have a great weekend everyone…..

What are your thoughts about this topic this Thursday???? 🎮📳

This was the discussion for my MSc course this week:
‘social media can alter a child’s brain and have a negative impact on their mental health’

Discuss….. 🤔

I have to say I agree. I see evidence of this on a daily basis. But not only teenagers, some are much younger and also it affects all of us doesn’t it at some point?

* A loss of self-esteem and confidence….
* Comparison and validation with an idealised version of reality…… is what is posted really real?
* increased pressure and reactiveness….
* increased exposure to damaging content….
* a feeling of inadequacy and isolation….
* increased screen time, gaming, dopamine seeking, impulsivity, over stimulation…..
* increased safety risk, who are the ‘friends’
* sleep deprivation
* inability to switch off….
* instant gratification….

The list can go on, I’m sure there’s more you could add???

How many of these things can you relate to for both yourselves and your children???

The important thing to remember is that it is not only affecting their behaviour but their brain development too. 🧠
So what can you do? What do you find works?
Or do you find it hard to regulate?
I know my children know more about technology than I do so it’s hard to keep up and they can easily outsmart me!!!

The World health organisation (WHO) did a study last September and called for increased supervision, regulation, education along with tighter rules and boundaries around screen time and usage.
The results from the study showed:

* 1 in 10 adolescents showed problematic social media behaviour

* 1/3 gamed daily with 1in5 playing for 4hrs or more. 16% boys and 7% girls expressed they were at risk of problematic gaming.

44% girls age 15, were in constant online contact.
13% girls/9% boys experienced negative consequences from online use.

I’m interested in your thoughts….. please share 😊

What are you doing to build your wellbeing as we head towards winter????

Shorter days and cold/wet weather are on the way….. 💦

The clocks go back shortly and mess with our body clocks ⏰

So it’s important to up your self care. What do you need more of to feel better?

Scheduling in yourself as you would other appointments is essential. You are essential!

You should have set yourself time every day for you. It can be as little as 20mins-1hr to do something you enjoy.

Then once a week an activity away from your everyday to lift you up.

Then once a month something bigger…..

For me this is: daily- hot bubble bath/reading a book/cross stitch/spending time with the horses/being out in nature
Weekly: yoga
Monthly: massage/soundbath/coffee with a friend/ day out maybe.

What is your self care schedule???

*** Our sound bath is now full ***
