April is Parkinson's Awareness Month, with 11th April being widely recognised as World Parkinson's Day. At this time of year, we try to raise awareness of Parkinson's- what it is and what a diagnosis can mean for a person. Parkinson's UK state that:
❓Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition. This means it will get worse over time and there isn't a cure as yet.
👨‍⚕People with Parkinson's don't have enough of the chemical dopamine in their brain because some of the nerve cells that make it have stopped working. This affects the way that the brain controls movement, causing the symptoms of Parkinson's, including a tremor, rigidity and slowness of movement.
💙Around 166,000 people live with Parkinson’s in the UK. Parkinson's is on the rise. In the UK today, someone is diagnosed every 20 minutes. By 2050, the number of people with Parkinson’s worldwide will double to 25 million.

🎙️Let’s Talk About Homecare Episode 5: Funding support from your local council. For this area that will be Kent County Council, and you can find full details online at www.kent.gov.uk/social-care-and-health/adult-social-care or you can give them a call on 03000 416 161. There is now a self assessment option online for the care needs assessment.
The Direct Payment option mentioned allows much more freedom and choice in regard to which care provider you would like to deliver your care, but you must be able to show that you are using that finance to pay for care.

💜 We recently attended a couple of Careers Fairs at schools local to us, and asked the students to write down what the word ‘Care’ meant to them. We were pleasantly surprised and extremely impressed with all of the responses, the majority of which were carefully considered, thoughtful and heart-warming. Thankyou to those who took part for making us smile and renewing our faith in the younger generations 💜

➡️ You don’t have to be receiving paid care currently, or have a formal diagnosis.
✅ Be specific and include as much detail as possible in the form, making use of all the blank spaces!
💜 Use the “Statement from someone who knows you” to reinforce the information you have provided and give more clarity to the impact of your disability or health condition on your every day life.
