Please do your very best not to burn!
βΌ SUNBURN, REDDENING, PEELING AND EVEN TANNING OF THE SKIN ARE CLEAR INDICATIONS OF SUN DAMAGE. OVER-EXPOSURE TO UVA AND UVB CAUSES DNA CELL DAMAGE THAT CAN LEAD TO ALL TYPES OF SKIN CANCER.
β Cumulative sun exposure is the main cause of non-melanoma skin cancers, while sunburn plays a clear role in the development of melanoma.
β Sunburn, particularly in childhood or adolescence can significantly increase your risk of developing melanoma. Skin damage builds up over time starting with your very first sunburn and the more you burn, the greater your risk of developing melanoma.
β Sunburn (reddening of the skin) is a reaction to over-exposure to UV radiation caused by the sun and/or sunbeds. Our skin turns red within 2-6 hours of being burnt and continues to develop for the next 24 to 72 hours. The superficial layers of the skin release chemicals that cause our blood vessels to expand and leak fluid causing swelling, pain and redness. Without sun protection, UV radiation penetrates deep into the layers of the skin causing cumulative and irreparable damage to the skin cells.
β A GOLDEN RULE OF SKIN CANCER PREVENTION IS TO NEVER ALLOW YOUR SKIN TO BURN.
βΌ Daily skin protection and monthly skin surveillance is critical - it has the power to save lives!
