POV: associating meditation with the absence of thought in the mind; if you have intrusive thoughts whilst meditating, you’re doing it all wrong.
NO! This is absolutely not the case. It is OK to have thoughts whilst trying to calm the mind and get into a meditative state. I feel like the main purpose is actually to acknowledge the fact that these thoughts are NOT you, they are a happening.
After practising any meditative technique a couple times, you will realise that thoughts will be normal throughout, but what changes is your perception. You gain awareness and observational skills, which allows you to watch your own thoughts as they essentially pass you by.
It will be likely that you then start to realise some of the thoughts that you get (which can usually feel conflicting & as if you have many voices inside yourself) don’t feel as though they are your own, yet just a programmed pattern of self-sabotaging or conflicting beliefs that have no real relevance in your day.
My point is… Try your best not to feel overwhelmed by the idea of quieting your own mind. It is not half as scary as you think and the benefits are endless. To some degree we all have very busy minds ( I mean we spend every moment in there!🧠) so we all start at similar points.
If you are new to the concept of meditation, the goal at first won’t necessarily be to achieve that state of silence everyone talks about. Perhaps it is the ability to start filtering through those tabs that have been left open for a while, that you can finally close down…
