Double-checking when you poo could save your life!

In support of Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, we encourage people to look out for signs - if you have symptoms of bowel cancer for three weeks or more, it’s time to see your GP.

Symptoms of bowel cancer can include:
πŸ”΄ Bleeding from your bottom or blood in your poo
🚽 A persistent and unexplained change in bowel habit
❓ Unexplained weight loss
😴 Extreme tiredness for no apparent reason
⚑ A pain or lump in your tummy

It's important to know that most people with these symptoms don't have bowel cancer. Other health problems can cause similar symptoms. But if you have any of these, or if things just don't feel right, see your GP. Don't be embarrassed, and don't ignore any symptoms!

As part of National Nutrition Month, we encourage everyone to eat and drink healthily - this includes getting 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day. Evidence shows significant health benefits to getting at least 5 portions of a variety of fruit and vegetables daily. That's 5 portions of fruit and veg in total, not 5 portions of each. A portion of fruit or vegetables is 80g.

5 reasons for eating 5 a day:
πŸ₯‘ Great source of vitamins and minerals, including folate, vitamin C and potassium.
πŸ₯• Excellent source of dietary fibre, which can help to maintain a healthy gut and prevent constipation and other digestion problems. A diet high in fibre can also reduce your risk of bowel cancer.
🍎They reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke and some types of cancer.
🍌 They contribute to a healthy, balanced diet.
πŸ₯’ Fruit and vegetables taste delicious, and there's so much variety to choose from.

For more help and advice on how to get your 5 A Day, visit https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/eat-well/5-a-day/5-a-day-what-counts/

We're supposed to be keeping an eye on how much we drink, but how many of us really know what a unit of alcohol is? With so many different drinks and glass sizes, from shots to pints – not to mention bottles – it's easy to get confused about how many units are in your drink 🍺

You can use the Alcohol Change UK Unit Calculator to find out how many units are in a particular drink or to check how much you're drinking. Regularly drinking more than 14 units of alcohol a week risks damaging your health 🚫
