Back after a fabulous holiday with my family, my boys were both born naturally, both late, one induced. They are now 12 and 10. The natal hypnotherapy course was so beneficial for me and my husband which is what motivated me to want to help other couples have positive birth experiences. I’m now refreshed from my holiday looking forward to helping couples have positive birth experiences. Message me to find out more x

You can read every book available on what to expect when you go into labour, unfortunately your baby will not have read the books and will allow nature to take over. The best preparation you can do is attend one of my hypno-birthing courses to learn how to listen to your body and baby to achieve a calm, relaxed and positive birth experience. Un expected (calm home birth)

"I started feeling contractions on and off while painting the nursery at about 11 am! I assumed that they were just Braxton Hicks and so I carried on painting and ignored them. I continued having mild contractions at intervals all day though I was not in any real discomfort so I just got on with the usual every day things. My husband got home at about 6 pm and I mentioned to him about the contractions but as it was 8 days before my due date we both assumed that nothing was really happening. We sat down for dinner and I started contracting at more regular intervals. This time they were lasting for longer and didn't seem to be stopping so I started recording timings etc. We sat down to watch TV but I found it hard to get comfortable so I spent much of the evening rocking on my exercise ball and wandering round the room. We went to bed at around 11 pm but I couldn't settle and found lying down uncomfortable so I walked round and round the bedroom swaying in a funny sort of dance movement (I don't normally do dancing!).

I asked my husband if he thought we should phone the hospital and he said that it was up to me and maybe we should leave it and see how things were in the morning. I agreed and went back to bed but I couldn't keep still so I decided to phone the hospital and ask their advice. I still didn't really think I was in labour I was so calm. At 12 30 am the midwife arrived and listened to the baby's heartbeat which was fine and she observed me had a cup of tea and intimated that she might go home and come back later when things were actually happening!

She said it was obviously very early labour but she would stay for an hour or so and see what happened. After that things are a bit hazy but I know that the midwife commented that the contractions seemed to be getting stronger and kept asking if I needed pain relief but I felt so in control that I refused. Not long after that the contractions changed and I felt like pushing. At that point I was given an internal and told that I could push when I felt a contraction. The midwife told my husband to ring the hospital and ask them to send the second midwife for the birth as it wouldn't be too much longer. Pushing felt really natural I just did what my body told me to do and at 3.53 am our beautiful baby girl was born weighing 7lb 11oz. About 5 mins later the second midwife arrived having missed the exciting bit! "

The dictionary definition of a hospital is "an institution providing medical and surgical treatment and nursing care for sick or injured people". Birth is a completely natural process, the only natural process which in the UK is expected to take place in a hospital. Therefore there is an instant association with fear of what will go wrong. My courses will help you understand what happens to your body during the birth process, how the hormones work and how you can listen and work with your body to have a calm and positive birth experience.

Hospitals have always been synonymous with fear and stress, this has only increased with COVID. Couples are worrying about going into hospital, wondering if they and their baby will be safe, will the medical teams be overwhelmed and stressed, the impersonal nature of our environment today, PPE and masks having to be worn. Birth is the only natural process which takes place in hospital, this can mean we forget that it is a natural process. Overtime we have evolved to believe birth is medical process that will be extremely painful and to be feared. Being able to keep calm, relaxed and give trust and control to the body will create a positive birth experience. If you or your partner is pregnant and you would like to learn the tools and techniques to have a calm, relaxed, positive birth experience please contact me, my courses are all being run virtually to ensure safety. If you refer a friend I can offer them a discount, just ask them to tell me how they got my details. I am also offering discounts for key workers.

Speaking to couples there seems to be increased fear of giving birth due to the COVID pandemic - the anxiety and stress of not knowing if birth partners will be allowed to be present at the birth, or in early stages of labor, and safety of baby and mum being in hospital are really impacting the ability to relax, stay calm and positive.

A Natal Hypnotherapy course can help address these and many other fears surrounding birth while teaching deep relaxation techniques which are really positive for mum, baby and birth partners.

During COVID lockdown all my courses are being run virtually to ensure we all keep safe. The course has been adapted to ensure couples don't miss out by remote delivery instead of face to face.

If you want a calm, relaxed and positive birth experience contact me to find our more.
