What’s the most important thing when injecting?

It’s undoubtedly having a detailed knowledge of anatomy, especially when using dermal fillers (to reduce the risk of vascular occlusion).

It’s not just 2 dimensional as vessels and nerves travel in different layers of the skin in different areas, and we have to account for considerable anatomical variation from person to person.

It’s so important to see a medical injector who is not only well qualified (ideally a level-7 masters equivalent, not a day course) but specialises in aesthetics and keeps up to date.

My main treatment is with dermal fillers which act on ligaments and the muscle layer (SMAS) to lift the tissues up and back. Placement is bespoke depending on the person but will usually include some cheek filler to restore lost volume (red arrow). Under the cheeks is the buccal area which is a large fat pad that atrophies with age and replacing this with dermal filler can stretch the tissues upwards (blue arrow).

Lost of bone at the jaw angle can be replaced and pulls backwards (yellow) and similarly in the chin can stretch forwards and help with marionette lines (white).

Anti wrinkle injections around the lateral eyebrow can give a subtle browlift when measured carefully as can filler into the temple if volume has been lost there - affecting the forehead muscle to pull the eyebrow upwards (green).

Combined tweakments produce a natural youthful look - a person looks more refreshed and typically like they did 3-5 years ago.

Aesthetic treatments aren’t just for lip filler (although dermal fillers can be great in those areas too). They can be used to correct long-standing asymmetry or deficiency, which can really affect people and their self-esteem.

This gentleman had felt quite down over years because of significant volume loss around the left side of the face leading to marked asymmetry. As a result he just didn't feel happy in himself, which in turn prevents people engaging in life as fully as they otherwise might.

There was significant hollowing around the left cheek which was suitable for treatment with a cannula and a volumising yet flexible dermal filler (Restylane Volyme). This particular fat pad is very large (on average 13 mL) but we managed to get a reasonable result with 4 mL and he was delighted with the results. This involved using a cannula to spread the filler over a large area (a needle would be used if you needed more precise placement in a specific area). As well as filling the hollow it caused a subtle but noticeable lift of the skin around the jawline, so you can see the effect it has on the jowl. ⬆️

It’s allowing people to connect with their true potential which is the best thing about aesthetics, and is so fulfilling, whatever the treatment. 💉

Subtle dermal filler treatments are great.

This gentleman wanted to look a little more dynamic so Owen helped define a slightly more defined look. 💉

With just a few syringes of filler, he enhanced the chin, the angle at the back of the jaw, and a small amount in the male apex of the cheek to bring this forward. This creates a more masculine appearance with no downtime, and looking better but not that other people would know why!

Non-surgical rhinoplasty can be so rewarding and also versatile - this is a lateral (to the side) deviation which was challenging as it meant building up the bride of the nose with tiny injections and moulding to shape. It must be done with the utmost care given the circulation and to avoid the risk of vascular occlusion. 👃🏻
 This gentleman had experienced years of frustration but was delighted with the results and with no downtime and much less expense compared to surgery (the gold standard treatment for this type of problem). 💉

It might be cold outside, but this is your reminder to keep applying your SPF daily ❄️

You might be applying SPF to your face already, but did you know that, ideally, you should also apply it to your neck and hands (which are often exposed) to help prevent premature ageing? 👀

Lines and wrinkles are the result of a loss of elasticity and collagen, as well as frequent movements caused by expressions like smiling and laughing.

Free radical formation, sun exposure, the natural downward effects of gravity, and a genetic pre-disposition can also accelerate the formation of these lines around our eyes.

Natural cheek filler 💉 nothing shocking, just subtle enhancement that fits the face it belongs to.

This patient had dermal filler injected over the cheeks, apex and anterior cheek to beautify and create subtle fullness with cheekbones and Ogee curve 💉 we have given her whole face a more contour and definition in a subtle yet impactful way. Julia Roberts is one celebrity who has openly talked about the pressures she has faced to have preventative treatments, but she certainly doesn't begrudge other celebrities who have gone under the knife. “It’s whatever works for the person...If that’s going to bring you joy, I’m all for it.”

What are my thoughts on good quality skincare? 🤔

Your skincare routine is the bread and butter of beautiful skin. If you’re busy and have little time to dedicate to your skin, it doesn’t need to be complicated, just stick to the essentials. Ditch the makeup wipes and opt for something that will give your skin a thorough, deep cleanse, such as a good cream or foaming cleanser.

Then add in an antioxidant to protect the skin by reducing free radical production – the process that breaks down collagen and damages otherwise healthy skin cells.

Now, if preventative ageing is your goal, one of the only proven ingredients to produce visible anti-ageing benefits is retinol, and it’s a skilful multi-tasker known for treating everything from pigmentation to acne and wrinkles.

Over and above anything else, it is essential to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen to avoid sun damage and premature ageing ☀️
