WHAT HAPPENS IN CLASS…
If you have been thinking about trying one of my classes but feel a little worried about what to expect I am hoping this post will answer your questions and put you at ease.
Firstly my classes are full of people of ALL shapes and sizes, genders, with different experiences of yoga or fitness. Lots of people are recovering from injuries; experiencing feelings of overwhelm or stress; have aches and pains and everyone pretty much tells me how inflexible they are when they start. All is welcome and all are welcomed.
So for each class… We settle in at the start. Get comfy and check in with body, breath and mind. Taking that first crucial step away from “doing” to “being”.
Next, we work through a variety of asana (postures/shapes) seated, standing, balancing. The class focus may be twists, forward or back bends (and more), folding or opening the body, alternating between stillness and movement.
In a yin class the emphasis is on longer held, static and passive floor based postures that target deeper into joints, tissue and fascia within.
We get to know our breath and our breathing patterns and we begin to coordinate the breath with the movement. We learn how our breath can support us to soften into the asana, increase or preserve our energy, soothe our nervous systems and calm our minds.
We frequently “check in” with our bodies to get to know our places of holding and patterns of movement. We learn acceptance of what is here in the present moment, to observe sensations in the body and lean in to those with curiosity and openness.
All classes conclude with savasana - the opportunity for the nutrients of our practice, the cleansing and shifting of energy (chi, prana) to integrate within. This will consist of either a guided relaxation, meditation techniques or silence.
In every class - regardless of what I have planned all students are invited to only do what feels right, right then, for you. Modifications and choices are always given to opt in or out.
If you would like to join me at any of my classes to support your own physical and mental health and wellbeing you can book your first class for free via the link in the comments 🙏
