Are you a training provider or a resourcer?

Each day. We see social media networks swarmed with the ‘I need a trainer for this subject or area… or I have a customer who has booked and… [insert generic statement here].

Fun fact. You aren’t a training provider unless you are providing the training. Facilitating a match is not providing the training. You are a resourcer.

Now, there is nothing wrong with using a network of experts. This model works for some companies and we are not here to comment on that. It’s not how we do things permanently over at White's Training andw are firm believers in there being a core of individuals (where the skill sets are known and validated and each person works to a standard). There is no problem using people on a self employed basis as long as this is controlled and you can satisfy your due-diligence.

But you shouldn’t be accepting or making bookings and then rushing to find a person or provider to fill the gap. If you were a training provider, you would have the resources or network to accept and tender the booking. Not live on “hopium” hoping it pays off.

We get approx 3-5 referrals a week due to things like this. There’s nothing worse than letting someone or a company down.

Oh wait, there is! Accepting a booking and then going on Social Media to try and source the people to facilitate it in front of the customer. Your loss, our gain.

The social care training sector is becoming the Wild West. Too many people think it’s an easy market and that ‘anyone can be a trainer’.

If it’s that easy… why are a lot of these individuals or ‘providers’ not endorsed by organisations such as Skills for Care which are relevant to the sector. Nor do they network on these meetings.

Yes, they may have CPD or some others. But that does not always show alignment with the sectors aims and values.

Due-diligence is key. When is the last time the person did their updates? When is the last time this person managed a service? How does this one person outfit deliver over 100 courses despite never being a manager, clinician or leaving a sole service. Unfortunately, we see a lot of this.

It's alarming the amount of people or ‘experts’ who operate like this. If someone says they can deliver specialist or management training, ask to see their working experience as a manager in post or business owner. It's not rude to challenge and most professionals will have packs of evidence to show. This could be previous CQC reports, alongside qualifications and professional testimonies.

We see people pushing ‘mock inspections’ despite not being a manager. The same as we see people delivering Buccal Midazolam training without having experience with the medication and supporting individuals who require it.

It’s easy to buy cause it’s cheap or because someone may appear to know what they are talking about. But hey, look at a lot of public figures such as councillors, other politicians etc. Smoke and mirrors for funding or to get in the door and those who lack integrity allow it to disappear like a fart in the wind.

We love social care. Our team(s) do all we can to innovate and rejuvenate. But we can’t always change human focus.

There are some cracking training providers out there - the same as there are some awesome networks of consultants who ensure the quality is there and actually check individuals before placements.

We will always happily refer our customers to other providers if we are unable to deliver or if it’s out of our skill set.

If you are a social care provider, please do your due-diligence. If you are a ‘Training Provider’ who cannot tender - Learn to say no. Don’t gamble with people’s lives.

I am sharing Todd’s story. Please read 👇

I know social care is full of many amazing and selfless people. The community is always there to help support each other and some of the most at risk individuals in society.

Todd is no exception to this. In fact, he spent most of his adult working life supporting individuals in the community, and in residential settings.

I have known Todd for 5 years. During this time, he has completed over 1000 days of work providing a significant difference and creating meaningful impact on those he helps support.

Todd lives with his mother, who has been specialising in social care for approximately 20 years. They have each other. They support each other financially, emotionally and in more ways than we could imagine.

Although, I have not been Todd’s line manager for two years. I regularly interact with him and the rest of the service.

You are probably wondering what the point of this story is. Let me tell you more.

Todd is a Care and Support worker. Sadly, on the 20th January 2024, at the young age of 33, he passed away unexpectedly.

Between Todd and his mother. They have spent over 30 years supporting families and individuals at their time of need. What a true feat from two people.

But now, his family need your help.

We know the sector is financially tough. I, my team and others are rallying to help with as much support as possible. However, Todd had a funeral preference and sadly, his family are struggling to achieve this with his sudden death.

Would you be happy to chip in? Any amount would be greatly appreciated and would make a world of difference to a family at their time of need.

Thank you for reading.

It Is with great sadness we received the news that a member of our team had passed away on the evening of Ja… Charly White needs your support for Todd Alhous
