In 2026 there will be twelve full moons, each with its own traditional name, seasonal meaning, and distinctive look in the sky. From February’s Snow Moon to December’s uncommon Christmas Eve Supermoon, the lunar year is packed with visual markers shaped by Earth’s orbit and generations of skywatching tradition. A few months stand out for major highlights. March brings a total lunar eclipse, turning the Moon red during a Blood Moon visible across wide regions of the world. August follows with another total eclipse during the Sturgeon Moon, while other months bring micromoons, when the Moon appears smaller and dimmer because it is farther from Earth. The year ends with an eye catching supermoon in December, rising bigger and brighter than usual as the holiday season arrives. Together, these twelve full moons create a full year of predictable yet breathtaking celestial moments, reminding us that some of the universe’s most beautiful sights arrive right on time.
