A young man in his late 20s came to therapy struggling with overwhelming work-related stress and worsening insomnia. He described lying awake for hours, replaying conversations from the day and worrying about tasks still unfinished. His lack of sleep left him exhausted, irritable, and unable to focus at work, which only fuelled the cycle of stress.
Through counselling, he began to explore the unrealistic expectations he placed on himself and the way he blurred the boundaries between his professional and personal life. Together, we worked on practical coping strategies: setting clearer work–life boundaries, establishing a calming bedtime routine, and using mindfulness techniques to manage racing thoughts. Over time, he noticed his sleep improving, his anxiety reducing, and his confidence in handling work pressures growing. By the end of therapy, he reported not only sleeping better but also feeling more in control of his life as a whole.
