Gareth wanted us to thank each and every one of you who sent messages and lined the street on Friday to pay respects to his wonderful Dad, Squadron Leader Pete - he said he will remember it forever and it would have meant the world to Pete.

Squadron Leader Pete Peters, the last surviving hero of Operation Bagpipes, has received a full RAF guard of honour at his funeral in Lakenheath. The nuclear test veteran had been destined for a small service attended only by his son, but local RAF crews and veterans will now line the streets of his...

Could you spare 10 minutes to stand on the High Street in Lakenheath this Friday 20th, when we leave for Squadron Leader Pete’s final journey? We will be leaving at 10.10am and Mark and a Royal British Legion standard bearer will walk in front of the hearse from the bottom of the High Street up towards the Co-op. Pete’s son told us that there was no-one to attend the funeral for this Veteran, so we have arranged RAF personnel from several different bases to attend the funeral, from an Air Commodore to a Trumpeter for the Last Post. If anyone could stand on the High Street to pay their respects, we really could give Pete the send-off he truly deserves. A veteran who spent most of his career in the RAF.
Pete was a Nuclear Test Veteran—one of the men who served during Britain’s nuclear testing era. Pete flew secret missions through the clouds of US hydrogen bomb tests in 1954, passing through radioactive fallout on three separate occasions.

We feel extremely sad to be posting this. We have been asked by the lovely family who tragically lost 4 members of their family, Domingos, Maria, Afonso and Dom Serrano in a car accident in Portugal at the weekend to organise a goodbye for those who cannot make the funeral in Portugal. This goodbye will take place tomorrow, Wednesday 13th August at 4.30pm and will be an opportunity for anyone wishing to support the family, share their own memories and light a candle, with a dove release also taking place. For further details, please click the link below.

Dedicated to the memory of Domingos, Maria, Afonso and Dom Serrano
