Cakes for kindness day 2025 🍰💜

Last week at Ruby Lodge Care Home we took part in Cake4Kindness day. An initiative dedicated to supporting the homeless and combatting loneliness through the power of cake.

We donated our delicious cakes to CRUTCH Outreach in Northallerton. Here’s a little bit about what they do…

“We offer food, clothing and support to help people get back on their feet. We are run entirely by volunteers and rely on donations from the local community to keep our doors open.”

Yesterday at Ruby Lodge, we took a trip to Italy without leaving our home! Our residents savored a delicious Italian feast, including creamy carbonara, flavorful bruschetta, and delightful tiramisu. Italian music filled the air, creating a truly lovely atmosphere. It's moments like these that bring us together and make our care home a special place. 🇮🇹

🌟 What a heartwarming day! 🌟 Our intergenerational dance class was a huge success! Our residents at Ruby Lodge and children from Lara Nursery Thirsk came together for an unforgettable session of laughter, movement, and connection. Seeing the joy on everyone's faces as they shared dances and singing was truly magical. A big thank you to Dance with Jo who made this event so special! We cant wait for the next one 🎶🫧💜

Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming Reverend Biggs from St Oswald’s Church along with Yvonne, our wonderful Chaplain. Yvonne is an amazing connector in our community and hosts Holy Communion here at Ruby Lodge on the first Monday of every month—everyone is welcome! You don’t have to be a regular churchgoer or participate in Communion; come for the quiet reflective time with St Oswald's Church, Sowerby, North Yorkshire and enjoy a cup of tea afterwards! 😊

They had a delightful catch-up with some of our residents who are eager to strengthen the bond between Ruby Lodge and the Church. A big thank you to St Oswald's Church in Sowerby, North Yorkshire! It was fantastic to learn about all the great work you’re doing in the community. Looking forward to seeing you again soon! 💜

We were thrilled to welcome Carol Sherwood, the Services Manager from Dementia Forward, to Ruby Lodge yesterday! It’s wonderful to be working with them and their advisors, who will be visiting Ruby Lodge in the coming weeks.

Dementia Forward, commissioned by North Yorkshire County Council in April 2019, has emerged as the leading dementia charity in North Yorkshire. They offer specialized support, advice, and information for anyone impacted by dementia across North Yorkshire and York. Their services are thoughtfully designed to provide the right support at the right time, from pre-diagnosis through end-of-life care.

Some key features of their work include:
- Dementia Support Advisors providing flexible and confidential advice to individuals and families.
- Community Wellbeing Services like “Hub Clubs,” wellbeing cafés, singing groups, and day services that foster connections within the community.
- A dedicated helpline (03300 578592) available Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 4 pm.
- Advocacy efforts to ensure that the voices of those affected by dementia are heard.

We’re excited to continue this important partnership! 💜

What a busy time we have had over the last few weeks at Ruby Lodge Care Home.

A huge thank you to Spilman’s farm for donating the super pumpkins to our home. Another big thank you to our incredible activities staff member Alison for supporting our residents to decorate them. 🧡 🎃
