If you’re only fixated on the big end goal, you might be accidentally draining your own motivation.
Maybe you want to lose weight, gain some strength and transform your body into a shape you’re proud of. Feel more confident in. And ultimately feel like your old self again.
This sort of BIG health and fitness goal is great.
But if it took years to fall out of shape. It’s not going to be reversed in a matter of weeks.
It’s going to take time. And probably more time than you think it should. More than you think is fair.
And if you overly focus on the end result
-Dropping several clothes sizes. Fitting into an outfit from years ago. Feeling confident wearing a swimming costume in public-
you will go to bed every night for months, having failed to achieve your goal.
❌ Get back in shape.
…not a nice feeling to have.
And unsurprising that you feel deflated and unmotivated within a few days of starting.
Instead, try and put the big goal out of your mind.
Focus on a series of smaller “tick box” goals that you can achieve in a day or in a week:
✅ Set a daily or weekly step target
✅ Strength train 2-3x per week
✅ Eat protein & veg with 2 meals a day
✅ Limit alcohol to weekends only
Tick these boxes and not only will you feel like you’ve achieved something you set out too.
They will feed into your bigger goal and keep you moving toward it.
And at some point, you will be able to check off that long term goal.
✅ Get back in shape.
This is exactly what we do with our personal training clients.
We help them break down their goals into small daily and weekly actionable steps and keep them accountable to doing them.
BIG GOALS matter. But they shouldn’t be the only thing you focus on.
