How an Occupational Therapist Can Help You Stay Safe and Independent at Home 🏠

Did you know that an Occupational Therapist (OT) can assess your home and help arrange essential equipment to make daily life easier and safer?

What can an OT help with?
Occupational Therapists can recommend and arrange equipment such as grab rails, raised toilet seats, bath lifts, stairlifts, ramps, and mobility aids. They assess your specific needs and ensure your home supports your independence.

How do you access an OT?
You can request an OT assessment through your GP, social services, or your local council's adult social care team. In some areas, you can self-refer directly to community OT services. If you're discharged from hospital, an OT assessment may be arranged as part of your care plan.

What's the cost?
NHS Occupational Therapy assessments are free of charge. Some equipment may be provided free through your local council, though there may be charges for certain items or installations depending on your circumstances and local authority policies.

Why is an OT assessment important for care?
An Occupational Therapist assessment is often a vital step before starting a care package with carers. The OT evaluates your needs, recommends necessary equipment, and identifies how carers can best support you safely. This assessment ensures that both you and your carers have everything needed in place for effective, safe care delivery in your home.

Book your Christmas cover now !
The Christmas and New Year period is one of our busiest times, and availability fills up quickly. To avoid disappointment and ensure we can support you when you need us most, we're encouraging families to book their festive care cover now.

Whether you need cover for a few days over Christmas, support through the New Year period, or care throughout the festive season, early booking guarantees you'll have the experienced, professional care in place when you need it.

Why Christmas Care Cover Makes Sense

We understand that arranging care over Christmas might feel difficult, but it benefits everyone. For you and your family, it means you can actually relax and enjoy festive celebrations knowing professional support is in place, spend quality time together without exhaustion, and prevent carer burnout during what can be an especially demanding time.

For your loved one, it maintains their routine and comfort in their own home, ensures they're safe and well cared for throughout the festivities, and means they can still participate in family celebrations with the reassurance of professional support. If they are alone during this period, it can provide company to enjoy the festive period together. Many families tell us that Christmas care cover actually enhances the festive period - it allows everyone to genuinely enjoy time together without worry.

How Our Carers Can Help

We understand that for some the holiday season can be both exciting and busy, but for others it can be a lonely and sad time of year, which is why our dedicated care team is here to provide extra support in ways you might not have considered before:

Festive Shopping Companion - We'll accompany you while Christmas shopping, helping to make it a pleasant and relaxed experience or you can give us a list and we will do it for you!

Day Trips and Short Breaks - Whether it's a day trip to see the Christmas lights or a short break to visit family, we're here to help

Pre-Christmas Cleaning - We can help ensure your home is spotless and ready for the festive season

Decorating Assistance - From putting up your Christmas tree to adding those special festive touches around your home

Gift Wrapping Help - Let us help wrap your presents perfectly for your loved ones

Christmas Companion - If family is away this year or if you'd like someone to help enjoy the festive period with, we can arrange for a carer to stay with you for a few days or longer.

Please give us a call today on 01454 801424.

🎃 Happy Halloween everyone! 🎃

As we enjoy this fun evening, let's remember to be mindful of our neighbours and community.

A gentle reminder: If a house doesn't have decorations or lights on, please skip that door. Not everyone is participating, and that's absolutely okay. Some people may be dealing with anxiety, health issues, or simply prefer not to take part. Let's respect everyone's choices and boundaries.

For those trick-or-treating: Have a wonderful, safe evening!

Let's treat each other with the same care and kindness we'd want for ourselves. 💜

Happy Halloween to all, however you choose to spend it! 👻

Cold and Flu season

Now we are coming into the colder months viruses are spreading across the country including the new variant of Covid. As Covid now is treated like any other Flu or cold it is still important to follow standard hygiene and taking precautions on not spreading your illness to others.

Wash your hands - Everyone should be washing their hands after going to the toilet, before and after meals , even after being outside. There is no correct number of times you should wash your hands per day however if you believe you are only washing your hands once or twice a day then that is far to low.

Don't spread your illness - If you are showing symptoms then you should be limiting your contact with other people and not getting into contact with anyone who has vulnerable immunity. This include people with medical conditions and people over the age of 70.

Use a tissue - Coughing and sneezing are the easiest way of spreading your illness. Ensure you sneeze and cough into a tissue , bin your tissue and then wash your hands.

Stay hydrated - Keeping hydrated boosts your immunity allowing your cells to work efficiently. It is easy for us to not drink as much in the colder months but it is still as important as it is in the hotter months.
