🌈 WELLBEING WEDNESDAY 🌈

🌿 Support your nervous system (Part 2)

In our last WW Post (4th March) we shared 4, simple ways to regulate your nervous system - regular activities WITHIN your control to help move from a stress state, to a calmer state. When your nervous system feels safe, your mind follows.

Here are 3 more ways to gently reset, this week:

☀️ 1. Morning light

- Get outside within 30 minutes of waking (even 10–20 minutes helps).

- Natural, morning light anchors your body clock and improves sleep - which supports your nervous system.

📵 2. Create digital boundaries

Constant scrolling keeps the stress response switched on.

- No phone for the first 30 minutes of your day

- No screens 60 minutes before bed.

😌 3. Let emotions move through you

When we suppress our feelings, it can increase internal pressure. Processing feelings can help reduce internal pressure and allow feelings to move through you.

- Try journalling, reflecting, or talking with a trusted friend, or therapist.

Nervous system regulation is a daily practice. And just FIVE minutes every day, truly compounds.

🌿 Support your nervous system (Part 1)

With so much going on in the world around us, it’s no wonder stress levels are high Especially with so much feeling outside our control. What IS within our control is our ability to regulate our own nervous system and shift the balance from a stress state, to a calmer state; not once, but a repeated reset, through intentional activities. Think of it as daily hygiene for your mind and body.

Here are 4 simple, science-backed ways to begin:

✨ 1. Lengthen your exhale

Inhale for 4… exhale for 6-8.

Longer exhales activate your body’s calming response. Try for 3 minutes.

✨ 2. The Physiological Sigh

Two short inhales through the nose, followed by one long slow exhale, helps to reduce stress.Repeat 2–3 times to quickly reduce acute tension.

✨ 3. Move your body

Movement discharges stress hormones and supports emotional balance. Try stepping outside into natural light, a 10-minute walk, or gentle stretching.

✨ 4. Safe connection

We regulate through one another; through eye contact, a meaningful conversation, or a supportive hand. If you want to reset your nervous system, prioritise emotionally safe connection.

😊 Engaging in these small daily activities helps build resilience. And the goods news is that regulation is trainable. And when your nervous system feels safe, your mind follows.

About our clinic

Located in the centre of the beautiful market town of Thornbury with free parking outside, a completely refurbished reception area and state of the art treatment rooms we are very proud of our clinic. Our facilities are set up with the patient in mind from late night and early appointments, high quality equipment for rehabilitation to tea, coffee and biscuits we have done everything to make sure you feel well looked after.

Our practitioners will use techniques gathered over years of working in teams of physiotherapists, osteopaths and Chiropractors to make sure you improve as quickly as possible. They will work with you to come up with a treatment plan that is clinically excellent and works around your busy life. We pride ourselves on having a holistic, patient centred approach and will look forward to helping you back on track as soon as possible.

At The Thornbury Clinic we understand that trust is essential for you to recover quickly and adhere to your treatment plans. Due to this all our clinicians are qualified to a minimum of degree level and have extensive experience in the NHS and Private Practice.
