One of the pranayama (breath work practices) we do in pregnancy yoga is the heart-womb breath. Following the breath as we watch it move between the heart and the womb. I've got a mixture of Thursdays and Tuesdays and I'll be taking a break with my family after the bank holiday (last week of May) so no classes then. Anytime from 14 weeks up to 42+weeks is a good time to start pregnancy yoga. We learn movements to ease various pregnancy-related ailments, relaxation to help you sleep, things that might help in birth and space for you to process your pregnancy. I usually teach on a Tuesday but this coming week I'll be teaching on a Friday instead (1 May (and then the following Tuesday 5 May). Matrescence - the transformation or metamorphosis into motherhood. I read this book of the same title by Lucy Jones and it blew my mind and helped me understand what I had gone through. I would recommend it to any mother or mother to be. Becoming a mother is such a transformation of the whole self- mind, body, emotions, spirit. It can be amazing but it can also be really hard and I don't think we talk about it enough. If you want some support as you navigate matrescence, I'm here for that through my pregnancy yoga class. I can guide you through gentle movements for your ever changing body, breath practices to help still a racing mind and guided relaxation for all the emotions. I make space to process the metamorphosis you are going through. I teach at Marsh Mill in the beautiful studio run by Mother Nurtured, usually on a Tuesday evening, occasionally other evenings. Loved teaching two new students tonight. We enjoyed some slow movements and then focussed on the heart-womb breath as a way of connecting to baby. I finished the class as always with a side-lying relaxation. Next week I'll be teaching on Friday (usually Tuesdays).
