What a lovely peice from our yard owner where we are based and the centre for EquineCoach, my other business ❤️
I’ve always been a little reluctant to write openly on this page about the other things we do at Kindred Spirits.
Not because they aren’t important - but because of that fear of being misunderstood and judged. Of it being seen as “not the norm” or putting people off who may be looking for a place to keep their horses because its "different".
But the horses teach us so much and not showing your authentic self because of fear is definitely not something that aligns with their teachings.
Kindred Spirits isn’t only a track system for horses.
It is a place where horses and humans heal together - physically, emotionally, and energetically.
We are home to EquineCoach, the human-horse partnership of Michaela and Frosty. What began as a duo is now supported by the whole herd. Their work includes equine-facilitated learning, somatic work, forest therapy and more - always led by the horses themselves.
Everyone here, either currently or in the past, has experienced sessions with them. It’s not something anyone has to do to be part of our community - but it’s something that has helped every single one of us move forward in our own journeys. And in turn, it has helped the horses too.
The horses are the centre of everything we do here.
We truly listen to them.
Because of that, they know they can communicate with us - sometimes with just a look, a nudge, a change in their energy or a shift of their body - and we will pay attention.
The horses also receive reiki sessions from Life - Reiki Energy Healing meaning that Michaela can help them stay emotionally balanced and supported. This isn’t about “fixing” them - it’s about offering space, grounding and regulation, just as we would for any member of our community.
None of the horses are head-collared to go into their areas for feeds. They simply go in. Some of them now even choose which rugs they want to wear, and when.
Recently, we had an issue with hay. The bales looked fine, smelled fine, came from the same field, cut at the same time and stored the same way — yet the horses would happily eat half of them and completely refuse the rest. We’re still baffled as to why. But we listened.
It caused weeks of stress, and we are now paying far more for hay than planned — but we did it because we listened to the horses.
We listen to them with physical issues.
We listen to them emotionally.
We listen energetically too.
Because everything is linked.
And the thing that drives everything we do here is the greatest lesson the horses teach us - love.
I’m not writing this because I believe what we do is “better” than what anyone else does. I truly believe everyone is doing the best they can with the knowledge and understanding they have and thats more than okay because we are all learning and growing every day. I know that no matter how far I've come, I certainly still have a lot of learning and growing to do myself.
I’m writing this to gently explain who we are - so that if we have openings for new members of our herd and community, they are people who feel aligned with what we do. Life is too important to share space with people who are reading from a completely different book.
If this post means some people unfollow, that’s okay. Hopefully it opens the door to those who are open to our way of being - and to the way we care for our horses.
The year of the Fire Horse is approaching.
Now feels like the time to stop living in the shadows and show our true selves.
This is who we are.
And we are so proud of what we have built. 🐴🌈
