"I went to a 2 hour try out session in November 2021 having never been on a horse before and loved it…I was hooked from day one and started my training with Kinross Vaulting Group the very next week. I have been vaulting for 3 and a half years now and have worked my way up from competing in walk classes, through to this year’s season, competing in Novice class in canter. Vaulting is a heavily female dominated sport, and I am one of a handful of males in Scotland and the UK.
I love the fact that this sport is fun most of all, I can take part as an individual where I am constantly challenging myself, but I am also in competition with many others. I enjoy that I can work as part of a team in Pairs and Squad too. I have a fantastic Pairs partner who is equally as determined and committed as I am, and we work well together; we must trust each other and communicate well both on and off the horse. Working in a Squad bring other dynamics of teamwork and is formed with 6 vaulters, with no more than 3 vaulters on the horse at any one time completing a variety of manoeuvres.
In May 2025, I completed a Barrel Assistant Course that will enable me to support others in training. Soon, I will be able to take my Level 1 Coaching in Vaulting also. I aim to be a good role model for future males competing in this sport …did I mention I was allergic to horses too?! That doesn’t stop me though. I train hard and want to do well."
