Hurrah, the lamb finally has worked it out how to drink off her mum after being 5days old! 🤦‍♀️

Some lambs are born and latch on themselves within minutes- like little miracles of wonder!

This lamb was always so excited he could not stay still to feed, he also had a bit of a funny tongue that came to the side.

Thankfully after 5days of time and energy from all of us putting him onto his mum, topping him up with milk he has finally worked it out at 6am this morning as I left him until last to feed (to try and encourage him to drink himself).

Happy ewe, happy lamb, happy farmer!

The small wins are sometimes the biggest! Doesn't take alot to put a smile on a farmers face early in the morning!

When your flat out busy, with not enough hours in the day doing all the farm jobs together and thankful to have the children in tow. Moments like this make it so special.

Rosie had over heard me in the lambing shed saying how I would love to have tea on the beach, Marc saying he would love a pint in a beer garden.

Then this afternoon they were busy playing in the sun in the sprinkler (in-between helping us move cattle, grabbing a crook to lamb a ewe, then some ropes for me too!).

As a surprise children had secretly dug out the camping table and chairs, cleaned them off and taken them up to the back of the house (the only part of the garden with no view, but it had to be a secret for the surprise apparently!) They then said we need to bring tea out and follow the signs! (I was knackered, so it was the last thing I wanted to do) but they had put it all out in a surprise for us to have tea!

It was incredibly sweet of them. It was a bit chilly though as it was 6.30 and the sun had just gone down, but it was perfect!

Going inside for breakfast after the morning feeding duties for the cows, sheep, lambs, horses and of course goats. This sunrise was welcoming me out of the barn this morning!

Makes you feel good to have been up so early in the dark earlier this morning!

Goodbye Butterfly, you gained your wings too early 🥺

Rosie found this little lamb as the ewe was lambing it, as the ewe was only expecting twins and then little 'Butterfly' popped out as her third!

Rosie has looked after little Butterfly for the last 3days, morning, after school, and evening. She was doing fantastic, drinking and walking about, such a happy lamb with a smile on her face.

Then today, Butterfly went down hill and tonight she has gained her wings and left us.

Rosie has been with her all evening since after school, keeping her company and making sure she wasnt in any discomfort.

We were all very fond of baby Butterfly the last 3 days, and even though she was only here a short time, she will be missed and remembered forever.

Yes we have 100s of lambs every year, but there are some that just touch your heart and you remember forever.

Fly high little Butterfly 🦋

Spring lambing 2026 has begun!

Yesterday early morning Rosie was adamant a ewe was lambing, I wasnt convinced, but checked her over and true enough, she needed a hand as 4legs were present just inside!
(A lamb should be born 2 front feet and a head first).

So we gave her a helping hand and luckily we have two gorgeous, healthy lambs!

Later on after school Rosie was back in the lambing shed to spot a ewe due twins, and she popped out triplets!

We are so lucky to have Rosie to keep an eye on things, especially as we are busy with all the other animals on the farm!

Today we had a lovely visit from class 2 at the farm!

William got to show his class mates around the farm.
We saw the ewes and lambs in the field, held the chickens and collected the eggs, sat on the tractor and quad bike, met Pancake the new baby kid on the block, and then got to see the baby calf born at lunchtime today!

It was a wonderful day, and William loved showing his friends around!

Happy Mothers Day form all of us at Firebeacon farm!

Especially at this time of year we have lots of new mums around.

Cows calving, ewes lambing, goats kidding. It is a busy time of year.

The mums are constantly working hard producing milk for their babies, cleaning them and looking out for them amongst their herd or flock mates.
