Mince Pie, thinks she is 'Queen of the Castle!'

She has learnt to jump into the feeder to get the middle bit!
The best bit, with the best haylage in, well, according to Harris the bull, and the other cows!
She knows she shouldn't be in there, but makes no attempt to get out, unless her belly is suitably full!

Then off she pops into the nice straw bed for a snooze with her little dexter friends! Marc Hamlett amy Amy Hamlett Tracy Rockett

I was sent this off a friend today doing some kind of trend!

She made it saying that if a cartoon series of my life was made, this is what it would be like as its always so crazy!

It is fairly accurate!

At this time of year, you will only find me in my wellies, waterproof dungarees, usually red hoodie and some sort of hat! (Its blooming cold most days!)

Either end of the day, trying to get all the animals fed, and quite often with a bar of chocolate in hand to keep me going! 🤣🤣

Then after school I have the help from Rosie to feed the sheep, always in her pink coat and crook in hand! And William helping with the bigger jobs on his quad bike!

Obviously I have to squeeze in the 'day job' at Synetics UK too, hence the laptop! 🤣

This evening the kids and lambs were causing chaos!
On the see saw, jumping over logs and climbing on top of the hay!

The lambs are growing every day, and with that comes more inquisitive thinking, every morning I go out they are doing something new!

Rosie and William took some logs into the pen today for them to climb, rub and jump over. I think the children enjoyed the see saw they made more than the lambs! Marc Hamlett Amy Hamlett

A busy day, finished off by cleaning out the cow barn. All hands on deck and we got the job done quickly!
Rosie and William were a great help and even found some eggs from our wild hen! (We did dispose of them as they looked a bit old!)
Happy cows tonight! Marc Hamlett Amy Hamlett

We made it to the weekend!

In the wind, rain and crazy weather we have had this week it is nice to see the lambs still smiling!

We have a busy weekend ahead, mucking out the main barn, and making pens for more youngstock to move into out of the main lambing barn. As we are scanning the main flock on Thursday, so before we know it we will need the barn cleared of the cows, mucked out and disinfected ready for lambing the main flock!

Every week we clean out the hens to ensure they stay warm, clean and healthy!

They love helping me, scoop out the old bedding and spread out the clean bedding!

We ensure our hens have plenty of space in their huge house, and large paddock to roam freely.

They also enjoy many snacks such as rice, crusts off bread, the odd chip even! Marc Hamlett Amy Hamlett

Exciting things happening at Firebeacon farm today!

We have been installing our 'shelter belts' and 'roundalls' in some of our fields!

The shelter belts and roundalls, are fenced strips or small round gatherings of native trees and shrubs. These will help reduce water run off in some of our particularly wet fields where the water runs off like a river! As well as benefitting our livestock by providing shade, and shelter from the sun and wind.

We have carefully selected certain fields for this project that do not have much shade/shelter for our animals, and also have alot of water run off.

On Saturday 7th February we will also be planting our fruit trees in our historic orchard!

These are obviously long term projects, so it will be years before we benefit from the trees and shrubs, but each year it will be exciting to see the progress! 🌳👀

Our animals are so incredibly lucky to have a roof over their heads during this awful weather! Marc Hamlett Amy Hamlett

So much rain in this storm overnight we now have a river through the yard.

We are incredibly lucky our newborn lambs are in the dry though!
