As Autism Acceptance Month comes to a close, we wanted to highlight how small differences in a classroom can make a much more inclusive and accommodating space for all children in school.

There are over 160,000 autistic pupils in schools across England - which is why it is so important that all children from a young age know about Autism, to create a more respectful and inclusive school environment.

As part of our Autism Acceptance Month series, we wanted to discuss communication, and how misinterpretation and miscommunication can add stress and pressure for autistic individuals.

Understanding these challenges and learning how to better support autistic individuals, we can create a more inclusive and understanding environment for everyone.

has published an insightful review on Using Sensory Integration Therapy, exploring sensory-based interventions and approaches for children and young people.

This resource supports occupational therapists in making informed, evidence-based decisions when using sensory approaches in practice. It’s a valuable guide for both clinical application and continued professional development, as well as providing a range of references for further reading.

Feedback Friday ✨

'For the first time my daughter has slept through the night - and without medication, which is amazing. She is no longer banging all night and she is so much more relaxed. This has absolutely changed our lives as a family, it is amazing.'

As part of our Autism Acceptance Month series, we want to shine a light on important topics within the autistic community. This week, we’re focusing on masking.

"While 99% of the public have an awareness of autism, 91% of autistic people feel that society does not accept or only sometimes accepts them."

This shows that awareness alone isn’t enough; understanding is what truly matters. By starting conversations around masking and other experiences within the autistic community, we hope to contribute to a more accepting and welcoming world for autistic individuals.

As part of Autism Awareness Month, we wanted to share a great resource which is 'Autism Central', a peer education programme commissioned by the NHS. It aims to build knowledge and understanding of autism, empowering families and carers to advocate for the autistic people they support.

One of the resources available is a series of informative podcasts that share real-life experiences of living with autism. These conversations provide helpful insights into topics such as sensory processing and the day-to-day experiences of autistic individuals.

Listen to the sensory processing podcast here:

The Autism Central podcast, in this series, we bring together autistic people, parents, carers and professionals to talk about different aspects of autism. Our first series focuses on sensory processing and is hosted by Holly Sprake-Hill, a neurodivergent occupational therapist.
