🌟 Meet Robbie - Our Neuro Specialist Physiotherapist! 🌟

We’re delighted to introduce Robbie, our Neuro Specialist Physiotherapist here at Physio & Therapies!

Robbie qualified from Northumbria University, Newcastle in 2022 and began his physiotherapy career with East Lancashire Hospital Trust. His passion for Stroke and Neurological Physiotherapy truly took shape during his time with the Rakehead Community Team at Burnley General Hospital, where he supported people living with complex neurological conditions - from Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s Disease to brain and spinal injuries.

Robbie now works with the inpatient stroke rehabilitation team at Pendle Community Hospital, helping individuals recover and regain independence after a stroke. His approach combines clinical education, therapeutic movement, and task-specific training - all focused on achieving meaningful goals that fit each person’s unique lifestyle.

With specialist interests in progressive neurological conditions, Robbie is passionate about empowering people to take an active role in their own recovery through self-management strategies, building strength, function, and confidence along the way.

Outside the clinic, you’ll find Robbie at the gym, in the kitchen, or cheering on his beloved Burnley FC - though he warns that Blackburn fans might want to stick to therapy talk, not football chat! ⚽😄

🚩 Red Flags to Watch For

If you live with diabetes, keep an eye out for:
• Numbness, tingling or burning pain
• Muscle weakness or cramping
when walking
• Slow-healing cuts, sores or ulcers
• Dry, cracked skin, fungal infections or thickened nails
• Changes in colour, temperature or foot shape

These may indicate changes in circulation or nerve function - and early attention can prevent more serious complications.

We’re proud to introduce - or reintroduce - Jay Hellings, Senior Trainee Gestalt Psychotherapist, who has been part of the Physio & Therapies team for several years.

Jay completed their fourth and final year of psychotherapy training at the Manchester Gestalt Centre in 2021 and has supported hundreds of people through Manchester Mind and the LGBT Foundation.

With a compassionate and grounded approach, Jay helps clients explore what’s happening here and now - working towards greater awareness, choice, and balance in life.

Gestalt psychotherapy is all about awareness - of your thoughts, feelings, and even physical sensations. Through this process, Jay helps people uncover what might be holding them back and find empowering ways to move forward.

Today is World Stroke Day, a reminder of how important it is to recognise the signs of a stroke and act FAST.

🧠 Remember the signs:
👉 Face – Has one side of the face dropped?
👉 Arms – Can they raise both arms and keep them there?
👉 Speech – Is their speech slurred or strange?
👉 Time – Time to call 999 immediately.

Every minute counts. The faster someone gets medical help, the better their chances of recovery.
