Do you have a diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis or know someone who has? Ankylosing spondylitis is an inflammatory disease which can, over time, cause some of the vertebrae to fuse together. This results in the spine being less flexible and a 'hunched' back.

Tailored physiotherapy is well-recognised as being effective at relieving the symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis and can even slow the progression of the disease.

After a full assessment of your symptoms I can create a complete specialist personal training programme for you designed to reduce pain, increase the range of movement in your joints, minimise fatigue and improve strength and posture.

Having a wealth of professional training means I can utilise the many tools available to me to support your health. My specialist studio offers the opportunity to utilise clinical pilates and yoga for strength training as well as massage to reduce pain.

I pride myself in my tailored approach so even if you have tried personal training before, please get in touch via my website to discuss how I can support your ongoing wellbeing.

I am proud to be trained as a bone health and osteoporosis exercise specialist.

Osteoporosis is a condition where your bones lose strength which makes them more susceptible to breaking. It might therefore feel counterintuitive to increase the amount of exercise you do following a diagnosis because you might feel it is more risky. However, being physically active and exercising regularly is highly beneficial if you have osteoporosis. The key is choosing the right type of exercise, modifying it appropriately if necessary and performing it correctly so as to avoid injury.

Working with me at the Willows we can find an exercise regime that strengthens your bones and the supporting muscles. If you have existing injuries as a result of your bone health I can devise an adapted personal training schedule for you.

There is no reason you shouldn't lead a full and fulfilling life in spite of osteoporosis. Get in touch today to see how we can work together (link in bio).

A crucial element of the ethos of the Willows is continued personal development. I have a thirst for professional knowledge to improve my client's health and wellbeing. I pride myself in keeping up-to-date with the latest news and progress in specialist personal training, clinical yoga and pilates and massage. Over 25 years I have trained in areas as varied as injury rehabilitation to female and pelvic health specialist, pilates to ballet barre.

Which leads me to my question- is there anything I don't currently offer that you would like to see at the Willows? How can I help you feel your best? Drop a comment below with any suggestions.

A crucial part of the recovery for a hip replacement is incorporating regular, appropriate exercise into your everyday routine. The correct exercises can restore strength and mobility to you hip and help you gradually return to your lifestyle.

Here at the Willows I pride myself in supporting my clients through the whole process of a hip replacement. It has been shown that preoperative physical therapy can improve postoperative outcomes so I highly recommend we start specialist physical therapy before your surgery. After the replacement we can use your surgeon's advice as a starting point for your therapy and work at your pace to return to your normal range of movement including improving mobility, strength, flexibility and reducing pain.

If you have a hip replacement planned, get in touch today via my website to schedule a call and introductory meeting.

I am not here to make you "feel the burn". Quite the opposite in fact! My completely tailored approach is individual to you and means that we follow your pace and your health needs which I recognise can change week by week.

While we might work at a higher energy pace one week, if an old injury is causing you pain or discomfort the following week we will focus on more targeted movements to minimise pain and avoid further damage.

When we start working together I will take a thorough history with you and work alongside you to establish your health goals. I operate differently to traditional personal trainers because I am a specialist personal trainer with extensive training in health conditions ranging from hypermobility to post viral fatigue. My goal is your ongoing health and wellbeing, not a quick fix.

Is there anything more wonderful than wandering barefoot in the dew-covered grass on a summer' morning? There is even a body of emerging scientific thought that suggests that walking barefoot on natural surfaces can provide health benefits owing to the relationship between our bodies and the electrons in the earth.

And, whilst in the long term walking barefoot is thought to restore our innate gait or walking pattern, taking it up in the short term often means swapping our supportive shoes for flip-flips or sandals which don't offer the all-important support to our feet. Over the winter our foot muscles might have reconditioned and so summer can place undue strain and fatigue on them.

If you're finding you have new aches and pains in your legs or feet, drop me a call and we can discuss a treatment plan to support your muscles and prevent further injury.

With the better, sunnier weather it's been lovely to get outdoors and enjoy all the summer sports which we know are good for our wellbeing. Unfortunately, this can also mean that old injuries can rear their ugly heads. Small niggles which we may have ignored for a while can be aggravated by repetitive activities such as a golf swing or tennis forehand.

I use sports massage to treat injuries and help return function but also to enhance sports performance through increasing range of movement and flexibility.

Each session is completely tailored to you and your body and with my breadth of professional knowledge, if I need to incorporate other therapies such as nutrition, we can build a package of support that works.

Visit my website today to find out more and to contact me to take the first step to recovery.

Are you or could you be hypermobile?

Hypermobility means your joints move beyond the normal range of motion. Historically this was called being 'double-jointed' and people may have been encouraged to partake in sports such as gymnastics and acrobatics that typically involve flexibility. We now know though that these sports can be quite damaging for those with flexible joints if not performed safely. The most commonly affected joints are elbows, knees, wrists and fingers.

Even if you do not have a diagnosis of hypermobility, if you suffer with pain associated with flexible joints, we can use controlled movements such as clinical pilates and yoga alongside specialist personal training to strengthen your joints and avoid over-stretching.

If you suspect you have flexible joints, contact me today via my website to discuss your treatment options at the Willows.

My history of ballet and dance naturally led me to train as a Clinical Pilates teacher. Pilates, which was originally developed by Joseph Pilates, focuses on improving movement, strength and control. However, standard pilates isn't suitable for everyone, particularly those with complex health conditions or injuries.

Clinical Pilates incorporates my pilates training with my physiotherapy expertise so that I can adjust, modify and adapt chosen exercises and movements to meet your needs and goals based on my thorough clinical assessment.

For example, a client may visit me looking to reduce their back pain. In this instance, there is a very fine line between choosing exercises to improve core stability and hip and knee strength which will support the back better or aggravating the condition further. My clinical pilates expertise means I can continually assess your form to ensure we will see progress and reduce pain.

To see if clinical pilates could support your health and wellbeing, visit my website today and book a consultation with me, Caroline.
