Congruence is a state where a therapist is genuine and authentic, with their inner feelings aligning with their outward expression during a session.
This creates a trustworthy and real therapeutic relationship, helping the client feel valued and encouraging them to develop their own authenticity and self-acceptance.
It is a key concept in humanistic and person-centred therapies, proposed by Carl Rogers, and involves the therapist modeling genuineness while maintaining professional boundaries.
In the osteopathic approach this is extremely important, as dealing with aches and pains goes beyond understanding the symptom, to examining the ‘primary lesion’ the origin of imbalance.
As a healer I do my best to uphold balance and understanding within myself. Utilising wisdom from all previous encounters to provide a platform for positive change in the body.
Ultimately to encourage balance in each patient, honed in on what is true to the individual, without judgement and with trust. The self healing mechanism can then come into full effect and the journey continues.
