Happy World Book Day everyone 📚💛

Today we’re sharing one of our favourite children’s books: 'Make It All Go Away' by Helen Docherty.

We love this story because it gently captures how a neurodivergent child might experience certain parts of everyday life — the sensory overload, the big feelings, the moments that can feel just “too much.”

It’s not a loud or dramatic book. It’s quiet, thoughtful, and deeply validating.

Reading stories like this with children can open up meaningful conversations about feelings, overwhelm, and different ways of experiencing the world.

If you haven’t read it yet, we highly recommend adding it to your shelf 💛

Does anyone else feel like ending screen time instantly turns into a battle?

You’re not imagining it — transitions are genuinely difficult for children. Moving from a highly stimulating activity to something slower (like homework, bath, or dinner) requires regulation skills they’re still developing.

A few things that can help:
– Give advance warnings
– Use consistent routines
– Avoid sudden shut-offs
– Stay calm and connected through the upset

Remember: a meltdown at screen time doesn’t mean you’re failing. It means your child needs support navigating the transition.

What’s worked in your home? Let’s share ideas 👇

Since 2009, the first weekend of March marks the Annual GDU by Global Day of Unplugging. This year the 6th-7th March is the date for this global, 24-hour pause, inviting us to power down our devices and power up real-life connection.

Whether you unplug for an hour or the full day, solo or with your community, this is your chance to be part of something bigger — a shared moment of presence, intention, and authentic human connection. 🌍

There’s been a lot of conversation this week about the government’s ‘Schools White Paper’ and the proposed SEND reforms — and understandably, it can feel overwhelming.

So what does it actually mean for your child or your family? Let’s break the information down.
SEND reforms: What’s changing — and what stays the same?
The changes set out in the Schools White Paper are designed to create greater consistency and strengthen support for children and young people with additional needs.
For parents, this should mean:
• Clearer expectations of what schools must provide.
• Better joined-up working between education, health and care services.
• A stronger focus on early support.
• A system aiming for improved outcomes for children and young people.

And what doesn’t change?
The commitment to seeing every child as an individual — and the importance of working in partnership with parents and families.

As further updates and guidance is shared, we’ll continue to present key points of information clearly and support you in understanding what it might mean for your family.

As part of children’s mental health week, some of our clients made their own drawings of their ‘place’, somewhere where they feel happy and accepted.

Behind every helpline is a human who cares. 💛 Incredible people who are on the other end of phone lines, web chats, and text services.

Helplines Awareness Day, a day to recognise those dedicated professionals and volunteers who show up every day to listen without judgement, respond with empathy, and support people through their most vulnerable moments. Helplines offer hope, safety, and support to people in need. Their work is quiet, constant, and invaluable.

Thank you for being the lifeline so many rely on. 📞✨

Why Transitions Are So Hard for Children - Have you ever noticed how a simple shift like turning off the TV, leaving the playground, or starting homework, can lead to big emotions?

To a child’s nervous system, transitions between tasks can feel huge.

Transitions aren’t about being “difficult", in many children (especially those who are neurodivergent) they are largely about emotional regulation - making the nervous system feel safe.

When a child is engaged in an activity, their brain and body are settled into calm predictability. A sudden shift creates a feeling of uncertainty - in some children, that unpredictability can activate the stress response system - which is why you might see arguing, running away, shutdown, or crying. Their nervous system moves into Fight, Flight, Freeze or Flood mode.

Regulation is about understanding emotions, not about controlling them.

As parents, we know that big feelings need calm anchors⚓ We also know it isn't always easy to be the relaxed presence when you feel overwhelmed and exhausted yourself.

We've put together some helpful strategies for regulation - small ways to look after yourself so you can aim for calm composure and co-regulation - creating a steady presence your child can borrow from. When you look after yourself, you are offering behaviours that can be modelled to develop future resilience in children and young people.
