Vinnie's New Chair

After the successful supply of a manual wheelchair with specialist seating the family asked us to replicate the seating onto a powered wheelchair base. The family asked for a powered wheelchair with attendant control to make life easier when out on family trips.

As Vinnie has Dystonia (variable muscle tone), which means he can either be very floppy at times or tense at others, the Spex seating and modifications are all about accommodating his unique set of requirements and keeping him safe. All the brackets on the chair have either been padded or covered to prevent him damaging himself, elbow stops prevent his arms from going right back or falling over the sides and the head rest was made wider to prevent his head from going off the side of the pad and getting caught.

The leg troughs in the seat cushion and directional pull of the harness and toe straps are all designed and positioned to aid him to come back into a central position after he has had one of the high tone episodes.

The Dietz Sango Slimline has both tilt and recline which is helpful for feeding, personal care and rest periods when out and about. His chair also has the Gyro option fitted that aids the attendant to steer the chair in a straight line on uneven surfaces.

All the seating, cushions and the power chair itself have been designed with growth and adjustability to accommodate Vinnie as his needs change and he grows in size.

Hannah came to us in October 2024 for an assessment for a new power chair as she was uncomfortable in her old Salsa M2, which she has had since she was 6 years old. Hannah is now 13 years old. Her family had managed to secure some charity funding so the search for a new power chair began.

The Wheelchair Service had been unable to offer her some of the features she felt she now needed from a new power chair. Hannah wanted a riser seat function to offer her more functional independence and for social benefits when out with her friends and family. Hannah has reduced sensation in her legs and felt that this would be helped by the use of powered elevating legrests. Hannah now has a new pink Dietz Slimline complete with pink Spex seating for added comfort and postural support.

The photographs are testament to how pleased she is to be going home with her new wheels….
